Finding a home for a shelter dog is not an easy task. A lot of people always look for younger pups and completely ignore older ones.
This can make it exceptionally challenging for the staff. They will always try to find a family for the seniors, but they are not always successful.
In cases like that, reaching out as much as you can and posting a dog’s story on social media can be their only hope of getting a new chance.
Meet Smokey
Smokey’s situation was not much different. He arrived at the Pennsylvania SPCA, and everyone was very hopeful that he would find a new family soon.
At first glance, he seemed very sweet and loved socializing with pretty much everyone. Although he was malnourished when he first arrived, that changed quickly.
With a proper diet and some patience, Smokey transformed into a very beautiful dog in no time. When he fully recovered, they started looking for a new family for him.
This is where his first troubles began. SPCA wrote in a post on Facebook: “Smokey has spent almost four years looking for a home. In his 40 months of waiting, only a handful of people have asked about him.”
They were starting to get concerned about him. Nothing they did seemed to work. The shelter staff were desperate to find a family for him, but it was fruitless.
Everyone who worked there knew it wasn’t his fault. He was very lovable and would make someone very happy if he ever got a chance.
A Hope For Smokey
One volunteer told The Dodo: “I love his fierce loyalty. He looks at me with such devotion, and he’ll frequently check in by looking back at me when we’re on walks. He’s also gorgeous, with his deep black fur with rich brown highlights.”
When talking about his favorite activities, the volunteer noted that Smokey really loves walks in quiet places and exploring his surroundings. He also enjoys playing tug and fetch.
The shelter staff are trying to find him a home where he would fit in perfectly. He has no problem living in rural or urban areas but would probably prefer a more quiet home.
While he enjoys being around other dogs, it would probably be best for him to be the only pup in the house.
While we don’t know what Smokey’s future holds in store for him, SPCA Pennsylvania is still doing its best for him and hopes that he will live a fulfilling life with someone special.
At the end of the post, they wrote: “Smokey has so much love to give – and it is pure. After waiting for so long, it’s time a forever family gives him the same.”
