I wondered what made Toby so unwanted that his previous owners decided to part ways with him.
It wasn’t his aggression because he’s the sweetest dog ever and doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. It wasn’t that he was unfriendly because Toby doesn’t do hostility. So, what was it?
Then, I learned it and it truly broke my heart.
All those times his families abandoned him, it wasn’t Toby’s fault not even once. And, it definitely wasn’t his fault that he spent two more years in the shelter after that.
Fortunately, Maddison Egan, a Florida woman, recognized this and decided to give Toby one more chance.
Toby Was Rehomed Three Times

Toby’s life was everything but easy. This six-year-old furball was rehomed three times in four years and it definitely took a toll on him.
The first time, he lost his home after being used just for his looks. Toby, sadly, was a breeding dog whose owner neglected him when he didn’t need him anymore. After that, he was rehomed two more times – once due to a landlord situation and once due to unclear circumstances.
Enter Maddison!

After his unfortunate family situations, Toby was admitted to a Humane Society. He was immediately accepted by everyone and became the shelter’s sweetheart.
Maddison, who met this dog several times, fell in love with him, too! She learned his full story and was completely heartbroken by his situation.
“He lived in the shelter for two years and I found out that he was rehomed three times,” Maddison stated for GeoBeats Animals.
On top of that, Toby was completely shut down.
“He was very quiet. It just almost looked like he’d just given up after being there for so long. I could just see it in his eyes that he was just attention deprived, deprived of love, just needing affection,” Maddison added.

Then, it happened.
Toby’s heartbreaking backstory made Maddison want him even more, and the two ended up in her home within days. She took him in as a foster until she was sure that Toby was ready to be adopted.
But, it didn’t take long for Maddison to switch from temporary to permanent!
Now, It’s Forever

Five hours is all it took. After arriving home, the two spent some time acclimating to a life together, and five hours later, Maddison knew that Toby was her forever dog.
He was sweet, affectionate, and embraced his new owner immediately, which made his adaptation process so easy.
In a way, it looked like Toby was Maddison’s dog forever. He just loved his new owner so much.

A week later, Toby started to play with toys and exhibited his vibrant personality. Every time he woke up and realized he was still there in his new home, you could just tell how happy he was.
And then, there’s his looks!
Toby has the gentlest, most loving look ever and it makes his mom’s heart melt.

“Dogs don’t lock eyes that much with humans unless they feel secure. And sometimes that’s all he does, just looks at me right in my soul,” says Maddison.
Toby is finally where he’s supposed to be. He’s as far from rehoming and another heartbreak as he could possibly be and is finally learning all about being loved.
Wish you a happy life, Toby and Maddison… and many exciting adventures in the years to come!
