Don’t judge a book by its cover. And, definitely don’t judge a dog owner in times of hardship! If Rukey could speak, she would undoubtedly agree with this despite her heartbreak.
Abandoned in a local parking lot in Michigan, this sweet doggo once had a loving home. Sadly, for reasons no one could explain but could easily predict, she was left with a heartbreaking plea hanging from her collar.
Fortunately, it didn’t take long for kind people to find Rukey and relocate her to a safe shelter.
The Note That Breaks Hearts
Rukey’s situation was far from ideal. She stood in a parking lot in Kent County, Michigan looking all confused after recently losing everything she had. When kind people found her, they immediately transported her to Kent County Animal Shelter.
The note she wore around her neck was truly heartbreaking!
“A kind group of people brought her to our Animal Shelter, with a note tied to her collar that read: -My name is Rukey. Please help me, take me home,” the Michigan shelter explained in a Facebook post.
The Michigan rescue embraced Rukey with an open heart.
In the Facebook post, they wanted her family to know that she was safe and in good hands, assuming from the note that she was probably left due to a difficult family situation.
“We can only imagine how difficult this choice was for you, and we sincerely hope you find brighter days ahead,” they wrote.
Motivated by Rukey’s case, the KCAS informed the family (and their other followers) that they not only provide shelter for animals but also various support programs for families in crisis.
Those include food assistance, pet care expenses, and specialized services for families or individuals facing housing crises.
“If you’re struggling to feed yourself or your pet, please reach out. We can assist with food, connect you to social services, and help facilitate other resources as needed,” KCAS states.
Rukey’s heartbreaking note is clearly a sign that her family loves her so much, but could no longer provide the best home for her.

In just a few days, Rukey truly stole everyone’s hearts! She’s a natural lovebug and has the gentlest personality, which will ultimately make her an ideal adoption candidate.
“Her gentle personality has already won our hearts, and we will ensure she is cared for and finds a wonderful, loving family,” the shelter wrote.
For now, Rukey will stay with her caregivers, decompressing and learning all about life in a family. Once she’s ready, the shelter hopes to find her the perfect match – one she truly deserves.
The good news is that Rukey’s friendly nature has ensured her an outpouring of applications already, which will make the entire process easier.
If I can say one thing with certainty, it’s that Rukey will definitely not be overlooked! I mean, look at her… how could she be?
