Every day, dog rescuers witness countless heartbreaking moments at dumping sites.
Abandoned, neglected, abused, and injured dogs wander through dirt and trash, struggling to find the best of life in the worst possible places. It is truly heartbreaking!
Lola, sadly, was one of them.
This sweet, gentle giant was found eagerly wagging her tail, with the sweetest smile on her face, despite being cruelly dumped in the trash.
Left At An Illegal Dumping Site
When Jess, a long-time rescuer, received a video displaying Lola from the Pawpers in the Ruff rescue, her heart immediately broke.
“This beautiful girl has been left, through no fault of her own, in a dump. There is disease, there is no food, there is no hope…A happy, loving and beautiful girl, thrown to the dump,” the rescue wrote on Facebook.
Lola struggled for about five days, with no food and water, completely cut off from decent living conditions.
Despite everything, when rescuers found her she was just the sweetest dog. She instantly wagged her tail and tried to befriend the hoomans who arrived to pick her up.
And, she did the same with Jess!
The two bonded right off the bat, and at that moment, Jess knew Lola had to be her new dog.
“She was destined to be ours ever since that dump video had me in tears on our @pawpersintheruff chat,” Jess wrote on Instagram.
The two arranged a trip home – and just like that, Lola had a new family…and a new life!
Welcome Home, Lola
Jess couldn’t be happier to see Lola blossom after everything she had been through.
Within days, she accepted her new environment and behaved like a brand-new dog, exploring the new world around her. She became the perfect companion to Jess. Lola went on hikes, took long walks, and enjoyed endless playtime in her spacious yard.
She was a social butterfly despite her size. Lola didn’t have a mean bone in her body and was always eager to make new friends.
Then, shockingly, Jess noticed a change in Lola’s behavior. She ate less and became inactive, indicating that something was wrong. During the next few days, her condition worsened significantly, which was a signal for Jess to subject Lola to a vet exam.
During an extensive checkup, Lola was diagnosed with bad hips and chronic pain.
“Lola has a deformed right rear leg, her pelvis is deformed on right side and slightly twisted so not sitting straight and plus the mild dysplasia in both hips,” Jess wrote on Instagram.
To make things worse, her condition was caused by a previous traumatic experience Lola had as a puppy, which broke Jess’ heart even more. All this time, there was a huge amount of pain behind Lola’s smile, and she managed to hide it all too well!
During the next few months, Lola was regularly given meds for her chronic pain.
Unfortunately, the vets stated that there were no surgical options and nothing further to be done for this sweet girl to feel better.
She had good days and bad, with her family there to help her go through it with love and kindness.
You’ll Be Remembered, Sweet Girl
Lola was a fighter, that’s for sure. Sadly, after months of battling for her life with Jess’ support, she eventually reached the point of no return. Against all odds, Lola lost her fight, leaving her loved ones in tears.
“It breaks my heart that she’s not here aging with us and doing all the things we loved to do, even the simplest things like sharing chicken nuggets,” Jess wrote.
Her entire family and friends are truly devastated by her loss. Yet, Jess is grateful that Lola had the opportunity to spend her final days in a cozy home, surrounded by the people who truly loved her.
After being rescued from that filthy dumping site, providing her with a wonderful life was truly the greatest gift!
