Every shelter dog dreams of meeting their ideal family.
Or at least waiting for them in a nice, cozy foster home.
Sadly, this often doesn’t happen, leading to countless dogs being forced to spend years confined to small enclosures and living their lives between four walls.
Sky, a deaf Doggo Argentino, faced a similar fate until she met Elli, her perfect foster mom.
She Was Shutting Down
Life hasn’t been easy for Sky. After spending the first year and a half of her life in a small crate, she was surrendered to a shelter with her sister, where her misery continued.
Shelter life took a toll on her. Sky began to deteriorate, and her deafness only made things worse.
“SKY is living in a shelter and needs out immediately. She is deteriorating,” Elli wrote on Instagram.
Although Elli had three fully grown dogs and was taking a break from fostering, she couldn’t leave Sky high and dry. Upon learning her story, she decided to take her in on a foster basis and give her everything she needed.
Elli fell in love with Sky right off the bat, especially when she realized that this sweet pooch reminded her of her very own deaf dog, Jasmyne.
The two drove off to Elli’s dog farm in upstate New York and began a new chapter together.
However, there was a small catch.
Waiting For A Forever Home In Her Very Own Home
Sky now has her very own (temporary) farm and her very own home on it. Unfortunately, Elli’s other deaf dog, Jasmyne, exhibits strong reactive behavior towards other dogs, which is why she had to be placed in a different arrangement.
She lives by herself in a barn that Elli restored into a guest house, although her new foster mom makes sure she doesn’t miss a thing.
The two spend around eight hours together every day, learning obedience, social skills, and sign language cues.
“She’s resilient and settles, quietly waiting for me to return throughout the day, into the evening and each morning. I spend around 8 hours with her each day,” Elli wrote.
Although it’s hard on Elli to leave Sky in a separate house overnight, this sweet Doggo Argentino girl doesn’t seem to have a problem with it.
In fact, Elli finds Sky sleeping in the weirdest positions and places – which indicates how comfy she is.
Sky truly loves everything about her New York foster home, from taking hikes and visiting the pond with her mom to meeting all those exciting friends along the way.
She’s absolutely great with both animals and humans of all sizes.
“SKY is great with humans of all sizes and ages, knows sign language cues, and is comfortable around other friendly, approachable dogs,” Elli added.
When the time comes, Elli knows Sky will make an incredible companion. She’s already made so much progress and it is only a matter of time before she steals someone else’s heart.
Hopefully, her new family is just around the corner!
