Just like all dogs who came into the world, Fawkes deserved to wake up next to a family who would make her feel treasured and adored.
Sadly, her cruel owners never took care of the beautiful Husky girl, let alone loved her.
To say that they neglected her is an understatement. They turned her life into suffering, starving her and stealing her right to be happy.
When police officers found Fawkes, she was tangled in fencing, yelping for help.
Fawkes Rebuilds Her Life
After they rescued her from her abusive owners, the police reached out to A.W.O.L. Humane Society, a non-profit organization based in Independence, Kansas.
They took Fawkes in and rushed to a clinic where she was given urgent medical care.
Fortunately, she managed to pull through despite being in a dire condition.
The vets were certain that the doggo was forced to eat dirt, grass, and bugs in order to survive.
The rescue center contacted Hunter and Annetta, loving Husky owners and experienced fosters who agreed to take the dog under their care.
The couple felt heartbroken when they picked Fawkes up. She was in a horrible condition, starved and so weak that she was unable to stand on her paws.
Annetta stroked Fawkes’ face, telling her that she would get better. She promised her a brand-new start in life.
Once the dog moved in with her foster family, she felt relieved.
Hunter and Annetta cared for her and stayed by her side.
As soon as the couple’s own Huskies met her, they welcomed her and gave her all their support.
Since Fawkes wasn’t used to eating real food, her fosters had to teach her how to chew.
“She had to learn how to eat again. We had to slow her down and get her to actually chew and all sorts of stuff. But the hardest part was getting her to be able to walk around,” Hunter told Cuddle Buddies.
Her legs were shaking whenever she tried to walk on her own.
Discovering How Love Feels Like
Hunter and Annetta took her outside every day and held her back legs, helping her make a few steps.
Although she wobbled while she walked, Fawkes didn’t give up. The brave girl smiled and wagged her tail, showing her foster family that she was a fighter.
Little by little, the pup began thriving and regaining her energy. Her legs became stable and she started walking on her own.
A week and a half after being rescued, she seemed like a different dog. Fawkes started chasing Hunter and Annetta.
The gorgeous Kansas girl began discovering the joys of life. She loved playing with her doggy brothers.
Since her foster family gave her the love and care she needed, Fawkes’ personality blossomed. She turned into an affectionate dog whose heart was filled with love and gratitude towards her fosters.
Hunter and Annetta fell deeply in love with her and realized that she belonged with them. They officially adopted her.
Fawkes lives her best life with her family. Every morning, she lets her parents know just how much she adores them.
“We wake every morning to her jumping into bed with us and licking our faces,” Hunter added.
The doggo couldn’t be happier. She feels loved like never before.
