Rescuer Heartbroken After Finding 27 Chihuahuas Crammed Into Small Crates And Dumped By Road

When you take your phone and open up your social media, you expect to see your loved ones having a fun time.

Unfortunately, if you follow the Napa County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center, California, you might have seen a post that is absolutely heartbreaking.

27 adorable pups were cruelly locked up in cramped cages and dumped outside of Calistoga.

Finding out about such a tragic event, the Napa shelter immediately gathered all the supplies they needed and made their way to the location.

Rescue Mission

Because the shelter was already full to the brim, they knew that taking this many animals would only make them feel worse. So, they decided to call in reinforcements

“Our shelter is overwhelmed, and we desperately need your help. On top of the daily stray and surrendered animals, we just took in 27 dumped Chihuahuas, pushing our already full shelter to the brink. Every kennel is bursting, and without immediate help, we are facing heartbreaking decisions,” the Napa County Animal Shelter wrote on Facebook.

Because they couldn’t place the pups into foster homes immediately, they contacted several rescue organizations who were more than happy to take some lovely pups in themselves.

Even though the chihuahuas weren’t able to be adopted yet, the California shelter urged the community to stop by and adopt other pups who spent days waiting for the perfect home. Not only will this help those pups, but it will also provide additional space for the coming dogs.

And, during the next couple of days, the shelter phone just wouldn’t stop ringing.

“What an amazing community!! Thank you so much for your support!!! Your willingness to consider opening your heart and home to an animal in need makes a world of difference. We are so grateful for your kindness and dedication to positively impacting our pets’ lives by fostering your local shelter and spreading the word!” they wrote in an update

Easy Does It

It is no secret that the shelter staff had a lot of work on their hands.

Not only did they need to medically evaluate each and every dog, but they also had to create adoption forms so that they could find their loving homes as soon as possible.

And, as soon as the forms were done, they were filled and signed by hoomans who were willing to help out.

“We have an update on the 25 chihuahuas brought to Napa County Animal Shelter: thanks to your incredible support and the help of Marin Humane (9 dogs, 8 are already adopted), Joybound (12 dogs plus a cute bonded senior couple), and Sacramento SPCA (4 dogs), these pups have found safe places to land!” they wrote

Now, after living through one of the hardest things ever, these adorable furry friends are able to leave it all behind and begin a life with a family who offer them nothing but the best.

This truly was the best-case scenario for a story that began tragically.
