Desperate Chihuahua Who Struggled To Survive In The Desert Hopes For A Second Chance

It breaks my heart to imagine how frightened a sweet Chihuahua named Cricket must have felt while she was wandering in the Colorado Desert in Southern California.

Instead of being pampered with care in a loving home, the pup lived a miserable life, struggling to find morsels of food and some water to quench her thirst.

Fortunately, good people spotted Cricket running along the date fields and called The Animal Rescue Center Of California, asking them to help her.

Determined to bring her to safety before the coyotes found her, the rescuers grabbed their gear and rushed to her rescue.

The Pup Is No Longer In Danger

The rescue team set a humane trap with food in it and patiently waited.

Since Cricket was hungry, she couldn’t resist the smell of delicious food so she entered the crate.

When the pup realized that the door of the crate had closed, she felt confused and scared.

Cricket couldn’t have imagined that her life was about to change for the better.

When the rescuers arrived in the morning and found the pup curled up in the crate, they felt relieved because she was no longer in danger of being attacked by the coyotes.

As soon as the pup noticed the rescue team approaching her, she lifted her head and stared at them with her big brown eyes filled with fear.

Wishing to warn them to stay away from her, Cricket started barking at them.

The rescuers could tell that she didn’t have much contact with humans before.

They collected Cricket and took her to a shelter in Coachella, California. She was in a bad state, malnourished, and exhausted from the heat.

She needed a lot of love and care.

Cricket Needs A Foster Home

Her rescuers started spending time with her, hoping to gain her trust. They fed her high-calorie meals in order to help her regain strength.

In the beginning, Cricket was cautious and shy and she refused to leave her crate.

However, as her caregivers continued hanging out with her and feeding her, Cricket started changing her mind.

Two days after she was rescued, the doggo became more curious about her rescuers, and she stepped out of her crate, but she didn’t let them pet her.

The Animal Rescue Center Of California is now looking for an experienced foster who would give Cricket the love and affection that she needs.

Despite having little contact with humans in the past, Cricket isn’t aggressive. She is a sweet pup who only needs socialization in order to start trusting humans.

I hope that the sweet Chihuahua will soon find a great foster family and get a second chance at life. She deserves it.
