Numberless senior shelter dogs stand in front of their kennel doors waiting for someone to notice them and give them a chance to feel loved again.
The seniors’ hearts become filled with sorrow after they constantly get overlooked in favor of younger shelter residents.
Nine-year-old Dolly knows how heartbreaking it feels to wait at the shelter kennel only to be ignored time and time again.
The senior pooch was admitted to the Humane Rescue Alliance, a shelter based in Washington, D.C., after animal control found her in the backyard of her home.
Having lost her previous owners, Dolly felt confused and heartbroken.
The pup desperately needed a family who would mend her heart, but unfortunately, potential adopters ignored because she was a senior.
Dolly’s Story
Shelter life was taking its toll on Dolly. She developed anxiety and refused to go out of her kennel.
Although she longed to experience life outside the shelter walls, Dolly stopped hoping that she would ever find love again.
Dolly’s life changed when she met a wonderful woman named Kim.
The kind-hearted human felt heartbroken after she learned that Dolly was going through a difficult time.
“Her shelter notes said she was refusing to leave her kennel due to anxiety and not eating her food, and it broke my heart,” Kim said.
Kim, who was still grieving the loss of her beloved dog, Panda, immediately felt connected to Dolly. She decided to give the senior pup the loving home that her heart wished for.
On her adoption day, Dolly couldn’t believe that she was finally leaving the Washington shelter.
During her ride home, the anxious pup kept barking. She couldn’t imagine that her life was about to change forever.
After Dolly moved in with her new mom, she felt scared and needed some time to settle into her new home.
Every time the pup woke up at night, barking and trembling with fear, her mom was there to console her and shower her with love.
Living Her Best Life
Little by little, Dolly started to feel safe. She realized that her mom would never abandon her.
Thanks to her mom’s support and encouragement, Dolly conquered her fear and built her confidence.
The doggo’s mom is convinced that they were destined to meet and start a new life together.
“I believe it was meant to be that we found each other. We needed each other,” Kim added.
Kim shared a video montage of Dolly on her TikTok account, showcasing the dog’s transformation from an anxious shelter dog into a happy pup.
Despite being a senior, Dolly is bursting with energy. The lovely pooch loves doing zoomies in the yard, and she feels like a puppy again.
Dolly lives her best life with her mom. The two best friends enjoy spending time together and going shopping.
