Every dog deserves infinite love – not the bitter feeling of betrayal and heartbreak.
And yet, cruel dog owners continue hurting their dogs’ feelings and dumping them without feeling a tinge of regret.
Like many abandoned dogs, Raymond never suspected that his humans would betray him and abandon him one day.
Sadly, that is exactly what happened. His owners drove him to a hiking trail in Michigan and left him to fend for himself.
As Raymond watched them drive off, he felt confused and hurt. The faithful pup truly believed that his family loved him and that they would return for him.
Waiting For His Humans
Raymond kept sitting on a pile of wood chips, staring in the distance, and expecting to see his humans.
As days passed, the doggo’s hope didn’t waver.
“Day after day, for five long days, he sat on a pile of wood chips overlooking the parking lot, waiting for his ‘family’ to come back,” The KG Foundation wrote on TikTok.
Hikers noticed the sad dog who kept sitting in the same spot and staring into the distance. They assumed that he had been abandoned.
People wished to help Raymond, but he didn’t let them. One woman tried to rescue him and bring him to safety, but the pup refused to believe her.
He would run away whenever someone approached him.
However, each time, he would return to his wood chip pile and continue waiting for his owners.
The woman who tried to save Raymond realized that she wouldn’t be able to trap him, so she contacted The KG Foundation and asked them for help.
As soon as Jordan Covington, the founder of the rescue, heard about the abandoned dog, she grabbed her gear and headed to the hiking trail.
Having heard how distrustful Raymond was, Covington thought that she would need days to win him over and rescue him.
However, once she offered him food, Raymond approached her with a defeated expression on his face.
The heartbroken dog realized that he needed help. He was exhausted and hungry and couldn’t continue waiting for his owners.
Searching For Unconditional Love
Covington took Raymond to animal control. After his stray hold ended, the dog was taken to A ReJoyceful Animal Rescue in Southeastern Michigan.
Once Raymond was admitted to the shelter, his mood started changing. He was excited when he met other dogs, and he wagged his tail.
Covington was both happy and relieved to see him coming out of his shell.
“It was the first time I saw his little butt wiggle, and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, thank God, because he was really just a shell of a dog,’” Covington told The Dodo.
Just when things started looking up, the doggo got sick and started vomiting.
His caregivers brought him to the vet, where he was diagnosed with pneumonia. They put him on oxygen and gave him the right treatment.
Thanks to the wonderful care of the vet team, Raymond began feeling better.
Once he was discharged, the doggo returned to the shelter.
Although he faced major heartbreak in his life, the doggo didn’t lose hope for a better tomorrow.
He loves interacting with people, and he is really friendly.
Raymond is now looking for a foster home where he can continue healing.
Once he reaches full health, the doggo will start searching for a place to call home. The pup can’t wait to meet his forever family, who will show him what true love feels like.
