Among all the recognized and unrecognized dog breeds, Newfypoos are special dogs. Rarely does any dog breed have so many wonderful traits. Wow, maybe that’s why they’re so big and fluffy: to keep all those unique features in one place?!
No, the reason why these pups are big is the fact one of their parents is the large Newfoundland. They get their elegance from the Standard Poodle. All in all, they get their best features from both parents.
But, how are Newfypoos in real life? What makes them tick? How do you feed them? After all, they’re a relatively new dog breed. Not much is known about their health. Be that as it is, we will try to crack the code behind the enigma called the cutest designer dog.
World, meet the Newfypoo!
What is a Newfypoo?
The Newfypoo is a large breed designer dog with a heart twice as big as a regular one. There’s no need to look any further because this is the puppy for you.
The Newfypoo will fit into families with a big and spacious yard. Live in a tiny apartment and want one of these dogs? Try your luck somewhere else. They’re one of those gentle giants that will sweep you off your feet with their intelligence, playfulness, and big, warm heart.
But these pupsters don’t do well in tiny places. They need room to burn off energy. Trust us – they have lots of it!
These dogs are quite friendly and outgoing, meaning they will get along with pretty much anybody. Of course, proper training and socialization should be done before letting them roam free.
Being so friendly has allowed the Newfypoos to be suitable for various families and lifestyles. Active singles and families with kids will especially enjoy spending time with this breed.
As long as he gets plenty of love, care, and the attention he deserves, the Newfypoo will be a happy dog.
The Newfypoo dog has many names. Depending on who you ask, you’ll hear them being called the Newdle, Newfydoodle, Newfiedoo, Newfoundlandpoo, Newfoundlandoodle, Poofoundland, and the Newfoundland-Poodle Mix. Wow, so many names!
All of these alternative names are a mouthful and hard to remember. That’s why the Newfypoo is the official name of the breed.
As you’ve probably figured out, these dogs are crossed between the Newfoundland dog and the Poodle. Their offspring inherited the Poodle’s elegance and the Newfoundland’s sweetness.
However, because this is a crossbreed, it can sometimes be tricky to predict which personality will take over. It depends on how many genes from each parent they have inherited.
Still, you can rest assured you’ll get a smart, gentle, and friendly dog. Even if they take after the Poodle side or the Newfoundland side, your Newfypoo will still stay the same. There are no favorites when it comes to genetics.
We know trying to resist this breed is hard. They look adorable, but their personality is even better! Before you decide to add this precious pup to your family, think about your situation. If you tick all the boxes for owning a Newfypoo, you’re good to go.
Don’t get a dog if you’re not capable of taking care of it. You’re both going to be miserable.
The origin of the Newfypoo
It’s always hard to know the exact origin of a designer dog. Many crossbreeds have existed for ages. There were probably some accidental breedings in the past we are not aware of. Many purebred dogs have adventures outside of their own breed.
Generally speaking, a designer dog becomes a breed once the breeders decided to breed them intentionally. Take this Newfoundland and Poodle mix, for example. This new breed was probably made to be an adaptable, friendly, and extroverted dog with a low-shedding coat.
This, too, isn’t certain, but it’s most likely the reason behind breeding a Newfypoo.
The place of origin of the Newfypoo is still unknown, but since many designer dogs come from the United States, we’ll just assume the Newfypoo does too. The breed probably started some twenty or so years ago.
That’s all the info available about the Newfypoo’s origins, but we do have some more info about this designer pup.
The Newfypoo’s pedigree

The Newfypoo is a cross between a purebred Newfoundland and a Poodle. These dogs are mostly a 50/50 mix between the two parental breeds. Hence, they’re the F1 or first-generation hybrids. The F1 dogs are the most common, and they are labeled as having good health.
The Newfypoo’s parents are two completely different dog breeds in every possible way. No wonder why crossbreed puppies are not alike at all. There’s always a difference between the puppies.
For example, some pups may inherit the Poodle’s narrow muzzle and carry a curly coat. In contrast, others might resemble a teddy bear because of their big heads inherited from the Newfy parent.
Differences may even appear in the same litter. Truth be told, there is no standard for this crossbreed. Actually, no designer dogs have a standard. It depends on how fortune smiles upon you.
Many designer dogs are unpredictable, especially when the parent breeds are so different like the Newfypoo’s are.
However, breeders are working on developing a set of traits that will be required for every Newfypoo. How do they plan to achieve this? By multigenerational crossing, of course! The percentage of each parent breed will vary depending on which traits are more desirable.
Take the Poodle parent, for example. Poodles carry a hypoallergenic gene. Many future Newfypoo owners would love their pet to be hypoallergenic dogs. Also, Newfoundlands are strong dogs, perfect for hard work. We know many of you would love to own a Newfypoo like this.
Someday, the perfect Newfypoo will exist. But for now, let’s stick with what we know about this crossbreed. The only certain fact is your Newfypoo will be adorable in every possible way!
What to feed your Newfypoo
Like most dogs, the Newfypoo will do just fine on high-quality dry food. But still, the kibble must be made from high-grade natural ingredients and formulated to satisfy their unique needs.
Newfypoos usually use large or extra large dog breed formulas specially designed for active dogs. Of course, you need to adapt the formula depending on the age group your dog falls into.
For every question concerning your dog’s diet, you should consult your vet. Dog food manufacturers usually provide rough guidelines on feeding dogs, but this isn’t enough. Always check for more detailed instructions.
Every dog is different, so it’s best to leave the decision about the food to your dog’s vet.
Newfypoos are big dogs and big eaters. Your pup should eat somewhere between four and a half to six cups of food daily, but make sure it’s divided into several feeding sessions. This is important to prevent your dog from becoming overweight.
Obesity is a serious issue and must not be overlooked. It’s the cause of many health issues, and Newfypoo’s are well-known for their love for food. You’d be amazed at how much they can eat!
Every dog owner must be aware of two lists of human food appropriate and inappropriate for dogs.
Food appropriate for dogs:
• Edamame
• Jicama
• Turnip
• Papaya
• Guava
• Scallops
• Basil
Food inappropriate for dogs:
• Paprika
• Bagels
• Pretzels
• Salsa
• Doritos
• Hummus
• Wasabi
• Spam
• Prunes
How to train your Newfypoo
Smart and eager to please, the Newfypoos will listen to every command. It’s amazing how fast these dogs learn! Training them will be a piece of cake.
Still, to achieve the best possible training, certain methods must be used. Training and socialization should start at an early age. The sooner, the better! If you wait for too long, you’ll end up with a pup who misbehaves and who’s prone to behavioral issues.
The key to successful training and socialization is positive reinforcement. Always encourage your dog and give rewards for the tiniest job well done. Every dog responds well to this approach.
Fully grown Newfypoos are large and heavy. Teaching these giants to walk on a leash is crucial. This will ensure you always have control when walking your dog. It means you’re the pack leader, and you’re in charge.
Also, train your Newfypoo not to pull on its leash or pause suddenly. It can lead to many more problems if you don’t stop that behavior in time.
Teaching them to enter their kennel on command is also a good trick to teach them. Start by saying the word kennel and then placing the dog into their crate with some treats. Lock it, then wait a few minutes before you let them out. Afterward, give them plenty of praise and rewards.
Besides teaching them basic commands, teaching them fun tricks is also a good way of keeping them under control, and it is fun! You can teach the Newfy all sorts of commands, such as giving a high five.
It’s amazing what these big goofballs can do.
How much does a Newfypoo weigh?
This is a large-sized dog breed, weighing between 70 to 150 pounds. Wow! What a big boy! That makes them more of a roommate than a pet if you think about it.
The Newfoundland genes have definitely kicked in, most likely because they come from the father. It’s proven that the dad’s genes are dominant. Keeping in mind the body structure of a Standard Poodle and the Newfoundland, it’s only natural to assume the Poodle is the mom and the Newfoundland is the dad here.
What type of personality do these dogs have?
The Newfypoo is known for having a big heart. These dogs are friendly, calm, loveable, kind, and have a great temperament. They’re also social creatures who love to play and do whatever it takes to make their family happy.
The Newfypoo gets along well with both adults and children. Being around other dogs or animals doesn’t bother them either.
How could you not fall for these astonishing dogs? They’re big and beautiful, both inside and out.
Despite being all cute and fluffy, the Newfypoos are actually very protective of their families. They’re excellent watchdogs too! Intruders are often intimidated by these large dogs and their strong personalities.
Another bonus for the Newfypoos! Yet another reason to get this dog!
Common health problems
All crossbreeds inherit health problems from their parent breeds. Since the Newfypoo is a hybrid dog breed, it may inherit many health issues from its parents.
However, it’s not guaranteed. Some dogs live a perfectly good life without any health issues. Every dog is different. You can’t assume all Newfypoos have the same problems.
What you can do is to be on the lookout for possible problems with their eyes, like cherry eye and progressive retinal atrophy. Also, they’re prone to heart conditions like subvalvular aortic stenosis.
It doesn’t stop there. These dogs may also have bone problems, including elbow and hip dysplasia and even patellar luxation.
You can avoid these health problems by taking your dog to the vet regularly, especially as they move into the senior age group. A vet is the only one who will be able to detect issues early and keep them under control.
How long does a Newfypoo live?
The Newfypoo has an average lifespan of 8 to 12 years. This relatively short lifespan is thanks to the Newfoundland parent, which lives only 8 to 10 years.
So, we can say you will have a lovely life with your new puppy as long as you keep them healthy and go for regular checkups. Every moment with the Newfypoo is precious. Put those 8 to 12 years to good use.
Every moment spent with your Newfiedoodle will be one of joy and laughter. Seriously, they might look adorable, but they’re quite the jokesters.
Let’s see what you can teach them in these 8 to 12 years!
Exercise requirements
Daily activities are on top of the list for the Newfypoos. Hikes, walks, and playtime are things they can’t live without. This will take care of your dog’s exercise needs and keep them fit both mentally and physically.
However, don’t let the runs go for too long. Take them swimming instead!
If you plan your Newfypoo’s exercise regime, your dog will be grateful forever. Physical activity helps them build muscle, and it’s good for them.
If you’re not available to spend time with them at the doggy park, step aside and choose another dog breed.
Those of you with a nice big backyard, step right in! You’ve got Heaven on Earth for the Newfiepoo!
Clubs that recognize the Newfypoo
The American Kennel Club (AKC) does not recognize the Newfypoo as an official breed. The reason behind this? The Newfypoo is considered a hybrid dog. The AKC is still biased against hybrid and designer dogs.
However, some clubs do recognize the Newfypoo. The Dog Registry of America, Inc. (DRA) and the International Designer Canine Registry (IDRC) are Newfypoo fans!
Designer dog breeds have always been criticized for their origins. Perhaps in the future, the AKC will see how great these dogs are and create a place for them in their club. They’d be lucky to have them running around!
What kind of coat do Newfypoos have?
The Newfypoo is a low-shedding breed. Once again, thank you, Poodle, for your low-shedding traits! Still, grooming a Newfypoo can be a bit challenging because of their water-repellent, thick, and curly coat. Thanks, Poodle parent!
Many Newfpoo owners seek additional help from a professional dog groomer to save themselves the trouble. Yes, it does get that troubling!
But, don’t think the troubles end there. The owner must still brush the dog between grooming sessions. Two or three times a week should be enough to ensure the coat stays fluffy and remove burrs, mud, leaves, and other dirt that can get stuck in the coat.
Bathing at least once a month is also a must. If you don’t bathe them, the Newfypoos tend to get a bit stinky. So, when do you know it’s time to wash them? Trust us, you’ll know!
Newfypoo puppies
Newfypoo puppies are the most adorable creatures! Of course, they are quite small, so you should handle them with care to prevent possible injuries.
The puppies should be socialized and trained from a young age. This is crucial for any dog breed, not just the Newfypoo. Only then can you expect your pup to grow into a happy, confident, and social dog.
Final words
We understand deciding which dog to pick is a big decision. Hey, it’s a life-changing decision! That’s why you always have to be sure you’re doing the right thing. Newfypoos are excellent companions. No, scratch that! They’re the best!
Rarely is any dog breed as gentle as these huge fluff balls. They might look intimidating at first, but if you take a good look into their loveable puppy eyes, you’ll see the truth: Newfypoos are friendly giants that will love you to the bone.
But, the only problem here is, are you the best for them? Do you love exercising, spending time outside in your big yard? Congratulations, you two are meant to be together!
