Sara Williamson had no idea that her visit to Kroger in Mississippi would turn into a rescue mission.
After she had finished shopping, the kind woman went to the parking lot, where she came across a sad dog who was roaming around.
At first glance, Williamson noticed that the doggo recently had puppies and that she had been nursing.
She returned to the store, bought some food for the doggo, and fed her.
Sadly, it was difficult to gain her trust. It was clear that the mama dog had spent a lot of time living the lonely life of a stray.
Yet, Williamson didn’t give up.
Trying To Find The Puppies
She could see that the doggo wished to get help, but her fear was much stronger.
The woman knew that it was going to be around 19 degrees that night and she was terribly worried for the puppies’ safety.
When the doggo walked away from Williamson, she decided to trail her, hoping that she would take her to her puppies.
However, the mama dog escaped, and the kind woman couldn’t find her.
While looking for her, she came across another mama dog, named Tilly, and her furbabies. She called her mom, who was a dog rescuer, and the two of them helped the canine family.
Williamson kept thinking about the mama dog who was wandering around the Kroger store, so she started investigating.
She posted her photo in a local Facebook group and asked for information. She learned that the locals had been seeing the mother dog for years.
Unfortunately, Williamson didn’t find the doggo and her puppies that day. She hoped that they were safe and that they survived the bitter cold weather.
Shortly afterward, the woman received news about the dog.
“A day or two later, someone commented on the Facebook post I made saying they had seen Kroger Dog that afternoon playing with her puppies by a shed. The shed coincidentally was right near the area where we had rescued Tilly just days prior,” Williamson told The Dodo.
Bringing The Puppies To Safety
Williamson and her mom rushed to the spot right away.
Once they arrived and looked under the shed, they discovered three little puppies who curiously stared at them.
Although the furbabies, later named Crosby, Nash, and Stills, were scared at first, Williamson and her mom managed to win their trust.
Having sensed that they could trust their rescuers, the puppies left their hiding spot underneath the shed.
Williamson and her mother scooped them up and brought them with them.
They were sad because they had separated the puppies from their mom, but this time, they felt that it was the right thing to do. They couldn’t leave the pups. It was getting cold again, and the pups were not safe.
The rescuers were also concerned that the puppies might end up in the wrong hands because a lot of people saw the Facebook post and knew where the puppies were.
Once the furballs arrived at their rescuers’ home, they were still a bit anxious.
Williamson and her mom showered them with affection and care, and their fear completely disappeared. They started thriving and showing their joyful disposition.
“We think they were probably around 4 to 5 weeks old when I found them, and they were growing like WEEDS. They are going to be huge, fluffy boys,” Williamson added.
Friends of Homeless Animals of RI (FOHA) took over the care of Crosby, Nash, and Stills, promising to find them their place under the sun.
The three puppies are currently in foster homes in New England, and they can’t wait to meet their forever families and start the best chapter of their lives.
The puppies’ mother is still on the streets. Williamson and her mom visit her every day and keep trying to win her trust. They hope that they will soon be able to bring her to safety and help her find happiness and love.
