Shelter Pup Who Was So Shut Down That He Cowered In Corners And Refused To Eat Starts Thriving

Nobody knew what exactly happened to Ghost, an eighteen-month-old Husky, before he was picked up on the streets and brought to Carson Animal Shelter in California.

Ever since arriving at the shelter, Ghost exhibited signs of anxiety and nervousness.

Both the shelter staff and volunteers tried to help him get adjusted to the new environment, but nothing seemed to help.

The more time Ghost spent at the shelter, the more his condition worsened.

The pup kept cowering in the corners of his shelter kennel and refusing to interact with anyone who approached him.

Trying To Help Ghost

The shelter staff noticed that Ghost refused to eat during the day. He only took several bites of food at night when it was dark and nobody could see him.

One of the shelter’s volunteers named Melissa started sitting with him in his kennel and playing soothing music to him, hoping to make him feel safe.

Sadly, Ghost’s condition remained the same.

Melissa hoped that taking the pup on walks would help him alleviate stress, so she brought him outside.

However, Ghost was so depressed that he curled up in the bushes and froze with fear, wishing to hide from the world.

The volunteer had to take him in her arms and carry him back to his kennel.

Everyone at the shelter was heartbroken to see how depressed Ghost was.

Jan Vega, a volunteer at the Carson shelter who often uses social media to help struggling shelter dogs, shared a video of Ghost in hopes of finding him a foster.

The pup desperately needed to break free.

Ghost’s video went viral on TikTok, leaving many people feeling devastated.

It also touched the heart of a wonderful family who offered to foster him.

Ghost Breaks Free

Shadow Husky Rescue, a rescue located in Temecula, came across the video and stepped in to rescue Ghost. They pulled him from the shelter and transported him to his foster home.

The rescuer remarked that Ghost was the most shut down dog they ever came across.

Although the pup’s past remains a mystery, his rescuers think that he was most likely abused.

When Ghost moved in with his foster mom, she gave him time to decompress in a room that she prepared only for him.

Her other dogs were eagerly waiting to meet Ghost.

Thanks to his foster mom’s love and understanding, the pup began feeling safe. He started making progress and slowly building confidence.

According to his foster mom, he already went on short walks, and he now eats entire meals.

Ghost will stay in his foster home until he heals completely and is ready to start searching for his happily ever after.

Thanks to the amazing people that jumped to his aid, Ghost got a second chance at happiness, and I couldn’t be happier for him.
