I’m sure no one needs reminding just how long 12 years are. Now, picture how incredibly long that would be in dog years!
During such a long period of time, our furry friends forget everything else they know as they are aware that they have a loving hooman who will love, care, and protect them no matter what. That is why it is so hard for them when all that simply vanishes.
People give up their dogs for many reasons, but we mustn’t forget the emotional toll the pups suffer when they realize that their best friend will no longer be there to give them sweet cuddles or yummy treats.
Unfortunately, Tito, an adorable senior pooch from Texas, knows this feeling all too well.
Why Did You Leave Me?
As he was getting ready to celebrate his 13th birthday, little Tito couldn’t even imagine the unfortunate event that was about to take place.
Since his family was preparing for a big move, they ultimately decided that they had no space for Tito anymore, forcing them to surrender him at the same shelter he was adopted from.
“When Tito first arrived at the shelter, he was very stressed, constantly shaking and hesitant to be touched. To help him feel safe, I started bringing him out of his kennel to spend time in reception with my coworkers and I. He’s been doing great up in reception. He seems to be more social and less scared,” told Aileen Betancourt, an adoption specialist.
Spending time socializing with hoomans at the reception really helped Tito remember how cool love and attention really were.
“Tito is a sweet boy. He enjoys his naps and walks,” she added.
The Sweetest Reunion
The thing that really allowed Tito to let go of the dark past and embrace the bright future was a reunion with his best friend, Teddy – a four-year-old cat who was also surrendered by his old family.
The moment he recognized Teddy, his tail didn’t just wag – it was his entire body!
“Right away, Tito’s tail started wagging, and he got so excited, even jumping around. As far as Teddy, we couldn’t place him on the floor since we didn’t want him to get startled with all the noises around, but he showed a sense of comfort around Tito, which was something Teddy wasn’t showing around other cats,” Betancourt said.
Their reunion brought the entire shelter staff, and TikTok, to tears. Everybody wanted to see these two pals happy and loved, just like they once were.
So, every staff member at the Texas shelter got to work and started looking for potential adopters.
They began showing this sweet boy all over their social media profiles, hoping that a loving hooman would fall in love with him and invite him to their loving home forever. And, that’s exactly what happened.
Just a couple of days later, somebody reached out to them and informed them that Tito was the pup for them! And, just like that, this adorable boy was on his way to a new family where he would be able to forget all about his troubling past, embracing everything the future has to offer him.
