My heart breaks every time I see a dog chained to a doghouse, yet for some furballs, that’s just the harsh reality.
To make things even more heartbreaking, some dogs spend their entire lives living exactly like that. They don’t know freedom, they never run freely in an open yard, and they never, ever feel the coziness of a warm home.
This time, it was Galentine, a two-year-old Pittie, sentenced to that neglectful life. Imagine: chained to her doghouse with nearly freezing weather and surrounded only by snow. Plus, she had a heartbreaking surprise hidden inside.
They Had No Idea What Was Inside
Donna Lochmann and her Stray Rescue of St. Louis team from Missouri have seen it all. Yet, when they spotted Galentine peeking from her tiny doghouse with snow all around they were shocked to the core.
This sweet Pittie had a sorrowful look on her face as if she were trying to communicate something important. And, indeed, something important was inside the doghouse!
To everyone’s shock, Galentine wasn’t alone! She had recently gave birth in her house and now had six fragile, infant babies all depending on her.
Fortunately, Donna and the team took matters into their own hands.
They quickly scooped up the puppies and their mama in the car and drove them to safety. For the first time ever, Galentine and her babies felt the warmth of a cozy Missouri shelter!
“Today, we had a huge win. We were able to get her and all of her babies!! Now they are warm for the first time in their whole lives,” the Missouri rescue wrote in a Facebook post.
Named Cherish, Arrow, Amour, Adore, Serenade, and Flirt, it only took a few weeks for the babies to grow into strong, bulky puppies.
They were happy and playful. They finally knew what a warm meal felt like and they definitely appreciated the fact that their mom was always near.
Galentine Is A Baby Herself
Galentine, on the other hand, transformed into a puppy herself! It didn’t take long for this sweet mama to show her true personality and it was truly captivating! For the first few weeks, all Galentine did was climb in her caregivers’ laps.
“She is attention-starved as well, and just wants to climb in our laps and kiss our hands, she is sooo grateful. What a good mom,” the rescue added.
The SRSL team was over the moon to realize Galentine would never have to go back to that old doghouse or be neglected again.
Now, she was safe and she was definitely ready to go into a forever home. She just had to wait for the right chance!
“She’s ready to be someone’s daughter. Never again will she be lonely, cold, frightened, or hungry,” SRSL concluded in another post.
Thanks to the joint work of Missouri rescuers, Galentine’s babies were safely transferred to a foster home where they will be receiving needed care. When the time is right, all of these puppies will be available for adoption.
Luckily, Galentine didn’t have to wait long!
Her loving personality earned her the status of the shelter’s sweetheart, and soon enough, her new owners experienced that firsthand.
At one of the adoption events, Galentine’s new mom and dad fell in love with her right off the bat and rushed to be first in line to give her a permanent home.
Now, Galentine has everything she had ever dreamed of: a loving family, a cozy place to be, and endless days filled with nothing but love. After all the struggles in the past, Galentine will finally experience what it’s like to be a baby!
