On a freezing day, an exhausted and malnourished doggo was roaming around the neighborhood in Detroit, Michigan, dragging her weak paws.
Desperately trying to find help, she picked a random home, walked into the yard, and lay on the family’s porch. She hoped that they would open the door and let her in.
The pup, later named Sugar, ended up spending twelve hours lying on the porch, shaking with cold and crying for help.
The homeowners eventually contacted Rebel Dogs Detroit, asking them to rescue Sugar.
Worried for the doggo’s well-being, the rescuers rushed to her aid.
Sugar Is Grateful To Receive Help

Once the rescue crew arrived at the family address and saw Sugar curled up on the cold porch, they felt brokenhearted. She looked at her rescuers with tearful eyes.
They stroked her and reassured her that she was safe. Sugar kissed her rescuers, showing them how thankful she was.
“When we arrived, she was so grateful, showering us with endless kisses despite how cold and weak she was,” Rebel Dogs Detroit wrote on Facebook.
The rescue team gave her some snacks and put a leash over her neck. Since Sugar was so weak, she couldn’t walk in the snow, so the rescuers carried her to their car.
They put her in the front seat and turned the heat on. Sugar’s whole body was still trembling with cold and she was whimpering softly.

After a while, the pup began realizing that she was safe and stopped crying.
The rescuers drove her to the vet where she was checked. She was heartworm-positive and underweight.
Sugar didn’t have a tag, microchip, or collar, so the rescue team didn’t know anything about her past.
After she was dewormed and prescribed the necessary treatment, Sugar needed a place to relax and heal.

Rebel Dogs Detroit posted the doggo’s story on Facebook and announced that Sugar was looking for a foster home.
When Leah Carroll came across the shelter’s post, she decided to foster the dog.
Sweet Pup Needs A New Home

Carroll took Sugar home and she started decompressing. Before long, the pup began showering her foster family with love.
Sugar’s foster mom was smitten with her sweet nature and hoped that she would find a forever home soon.

“She loves humans, she was perfect at the groomer (curious about other dogs there but no signs of aggression), she knows how to sit, she is crate trained / potty trained (a few accidents occurred with the stress of a new environment)…She is a little love bug who is looking for someone to snuggle forever,” Leah Carroll wrote in a Facebook post.
Sugar continued thriving in her foster home. She always sought affection and wanted to be near her foster mom.

On March 10, of 2025, Carrol revealed that she couldn’t continue fostering Sugar due to some unexpected health issues. She hopes that someone will step up and open the door of their home to a lovable girl like Sugar.
Hopefully, the affectionate doggo will soon find a forever home where she will be adored and doted on.
