Baloo is the kind of dog you love right off the bat. You don’t even need time to get to know him better – he’s an instant lovebug.
Sadly, his previous owners did not see him that way. Baloo was cruelly abandoned in a parking garage of an apartment complex. He was tied up and left all alone for three days until one of the residents spotted him.
When he was finally about to embark upon a new journey to a foster home, his momma welcomed him with an open heart. Little did she know that Baloo had a secret — and it was a big one!
Baloo’s Condition Surprised Her
The Rebel Dogs Detroit crew from Michigan couldn’t understand why Baloo was left to fend for himself. He was just the sweetest dog!
Baloo was found shivering from the cold, yet when he heard a human voice, he instantly began to wag his tail.
“He was tied up there for several days in the elements and clearly needed help. Obviously, we rushed over to secure him. He was shivering, wet and extremely cold, but very happy to go with us and get indoors,” the Michigan rescue wrote on their platforms.
Baloo knew he was saved the minute his rescuer addressed him in a friendly manner. He didn’t budge, went straight to her arms for some cuddles, and then left the parking garage for good.
It didn’t take long for Baloo to have his life completely changed. He was soon welcomed in a foster home by Callan, a Michigan postdoc fellow, and he couldn’t be happier!
The two spent a wonderful first month getting to know each other. They played, cuddled, went on walkies, and had an amazing time together.
Then came the unexpected.
One day, Baloo suffered a seizure and it took Callan by surprise. This was the first time she witnessed such a situation, and just seeing Baloo immobile and helpless was truly heartbreaking.
However, she made sure to be there for him until it stopped – and eventually, Baloo felt better.
Over the following months, Baloo had regular seizures, only now it was easier for Callan to anticipate them. And, when she did, she would always sit right next to him and make sure he didn’t hurt himself. Although heartbreaking, Callan was glad she could be there for her dog.
The Soul Dog
Baloo is a truly resilient boy. He’s currently on meds for his seizures and does a lot better. Despite the fact that he still suffers occasional episodes, he and his momma don’t let that get in the way of having the time of their lives.
She and Baloo have a wonderful life together. Baloo is Callan’s soul dog who helps her manage her time better and holds her accountable. Needless to say, he’s a successful ‘foster fail!’
“My work is a lot sometimes and he holds me accountable. He makes sure I come home at a reasonable time, I’m not staying too late at work. It’s just nice to see that he’s super excited to see me,” Callan told GeoBeats Animals.
He’s an absolute sweetheart who’s just genuinely happy to have his mom around. Baloo loves peanut butter and chicken, playtime in the park, meeting new people (and animals), and is an absolute cuddle bug.
Still, one of his all-time favorite activities is taking cozy naps near his mama.
Once an abandoned and unwanted dog with very few odds, Baloo now has everything he has ever dreamed of… and more!
