Belah was a three-month-old pup who ended up at a shelter after her owners surrendered her.
An adorable dog who once enjoyed the warmth and comfort of a home had to accept her new reality and get used to life in a lonely shelter kennel.
Despite the sudden life change that Belah experienced, she refused to grieve.
She remained positive and truly believed that her luck would change and that she would enjoy her freedom again.

When the staff at Ruff Start Rescue arrived at the shelter in northern Minnesota, their plan was to rescue cats and transfer them to their rescue.
While they were passing by the shelter kennels filled with dogs who barked loudly, they saw Belah. She stood out because she remained quiet and ignored the surrounding chaos.
While sitting in her kennel, the sweet pup reached her paw through the kennel bars and looked at the rescuers with pleading eyes.
Her sweet and calm demeanor won their hearts.
“But there she was, sitting quietly, smiling through it all,” Ruff Start Rescue wrote on Facebook.
The rescuers decided to pull Belah out from the shelter and give her a second shot at happiness. They shared a plea on social media, hoping to find her a foster family.
Shortly afterward, a wonderful foster reached out to them and offered to foster Belah.
The rescuers were overjoyed. After they loaded the crates with cats into their truck, they collected Belah as well.
That was when they saw that the adorable pup had a limp in her front left leg. It was the same paw that she hooked through the kennel bars.
The rescuers took Belah straight to the vet clinic where she was checked.

The pup had an X-ray, which showed what was wrong with her paw.
“…We learned that she has severe angular limb deformity in her left front leg and carpal hyperextension in her right front leg. Likely caused by birth defects or a past injury, her condition isn’t painful, but it does cause some instability,” the shelter wrote.

Belah’s friends were glad to know that she wasn’t in any pain and they immediately started thinking of the best way to help her walk normally.
The vet team came up with a great treatment plan. In order to strengthen her legs and avoid the risk of developing arthritis, Belah began receiving physical therapy and using a custom brace for additional support.

Before long, Belah’s condition began improving and her personality flourished more and more. She brought a lot of joy to her foster family.
Belah was an energetic pup who loved spending time outdoors. In order to stay safe while playing and going on walks, Belah wore a soft splint.

Her foster family was always by her side, offering her their support.
“Her foster family is supporting her every step of the way, helping her avoid any rough play and jump-free adventures while her legs heal,” the staff at Ruff Start Rescue added.
