While Emily Orr was returning home from her mom’s house on a dark and misty winter night, she drove past a dog park in her neighborhood in Parkville, Missouri.
All of a sudden, she heard strange sounds that seemed like a cry for help.
Orr felt that something wasn’t right and slowly made her way toward the dog park. She didn’t want to go home until she made sure that there was nobody there.
Once she approached the locked dog park and looked toward its fence, she saw an abandoned pup who was gazing at her with a pleading look on her face. She was desperately waiting for help.
Taking The Pup To Safety
Orr’s heart became overwhelmed with sorrow and she was determined to offer her a helping hand.
Orr wished to get out of the car and investigate but she couldn’t leave her young daughter who was sitting in the backseat. She called the police and her mom, asking them for help.
While waiting for them to come, Orr drove around the dog park and searched for the pup’s family but she didn’t find anyone. The doggo was all alone.
The pup, later named Emilia, was frantically running along the fence and following Orr’s car.
When Orr rolled down her window, Emilia looked at her with the saddest eyes as she cried for help. The kind woman could tell that the dog was terrified of being alone at the dog park.
Shortly afterward, the police and Orr’s mom arrived.
The police officers rushed to Emilia’s aid. Once the pup saw them, she began wagging her tail with excitement.
“She came to us right away and was unbelievably excited! She was wagging her tail. She jumped right into my mom’s car. She was loving the treats my mom had brought and tried to stick her whole head in the box,” Orr told The Dodo.
After the crew approached Emilia, they realized that she was in a bad state, malnourished and weak.
Orr was aware that Emilia wouldn’t have made it if she had spent more time out in the cold. She assumed that the pup had been dumped around sunset.
Emilia Waits For Her Forever Home
Orr’s mom brought Emilia home. Due to her anxiety, the pup barked all night and nobody in the house could sleep.
The next day, Orr’s mom bought Emilia a kennel and the pup felt more comfortable. She delighted everyone with her house manners.
Every night, she would enter her kennel and put herself to sleep.
As days passed, Emilia’s wonderful personality emerged. She began playing with toys and she struck up a friendship with Orr’s mom’s cats.
On the night when Orr’s mom’s appendix ruptured, everyone realized what a unique pup Emilia was.
Orr’s mom felt terrible abdominal pain and she lay on the ground, waiting for help.
When Emilia noticed that her caregiver was writhing on the floor in pain, she rushed to her side. She lay next to her, refusing to leave her alone.
“Prior to my mom’s surgery, while she [lay] on the floor in excruciating abdominal pain, Emilia laid by my mom’s side and gently rested her head on my mom’s stomach,” Orr added.
Orr’s mom couldn’t give Emilia the forever home that she deserved but she was committed to helping her get her happy ending.
She reached out to Friends of Parkville Shelter and took Emilia in. They found her an amazing foster family.
Although the wonderful Missouri pup is having the time of her life in her foster home, she can’t wait to find a permanent home.
I hope that her wish will soon come true. She deserves it!
