Sometimes, a little push is all we need to get back on track, and Reggie definitely needed one!
After being abandoned by his family at an Arizona shelter, this six-year-old Maltese was nearly a lost cause. Reggie’s coat was so matted that it caused him pain and left wounds all over his body. He looked unrecognizable and wasn’t even a shadow of his old self.
Then, after a two-and-a-half-hour grooming session, his world changed completely!
It Took Several People To Groom Him
When Reggie was surrendered to the Arizona Humane Society in December 2024, his condition was far from ideal. He missed his owners dearly, but the major problem was his severely matted coat.
Reggie’s fur was so tangled and dirty that it was nearly impossible to remove it just with scissors. He required an extensive grooming session – and that’s exactly what the AHS staff provided him!
Amitie Davis, one of the groomers, remembers how complex Reggie’s case was.
His mats were so thick and had feces all over them, which made it very difficult to get through. However, the worst part was Reggie’s neck.
“It took a very long time, multiple people going back to it, and then moving on to something else, and then going back to the neck. My scissors couldn’t even cut through the matting,” David said in a Facebook video.
Reggie had to be sedated for the entire session. Thankfully, a whole team of AHS groomers managed to remove his fur, and after a two-and-a-half-hour treatment, he was practically a new dog.
Needless to say, Reggie’s makeover tugged at everyone’s heartstrings! The fact that he was finally free of mats was priceless, as the quality of his life immediately improved!
The Transformation That Left People Speechless
Can you believe this is really Reggie? He literally lost one whole pound after the grooming session, leading many to believe he was a whole new dog.
After the session, this proud Maltese regained his confidence and became the star of the shelter. Still, he had a long way to go. Reggie was treated for wounds caused by his matted coat, along with being neutered and receiving the best care from his rescuers.
He even enjoyed a relaxing spa treatment and a bubble bath, which made his overall experience even better. And, let’s not forget that fashionable sweater he later got. Just wow!
After receiving the makeover of a lifetime, Reggie was blessed with more amazing news. Not long after his fabulous transformation took the internet by storm, he was adopted into a loving home.
“Thanks to the amazing work from our groomer and team in our Lazin Animal Trauma Hospital, he’s now a confident cutie in his forever home with a fresh haircut and a cozy sweater,” stated on Facebook.
Reggie’s now enjoying the simple pleasure of life next to the people who love him for who he is. Leaving his past behind, he’s finally looking forward to living his life to the fullest, chasing new adventures every day!
