When the animal control officers at Monmouth County SPCA learned that there was a chained dog in Asbury Park, New Jersey, they rushed to set him free and bring him to safety.
Since it was freezing cold, the officers were extremely worried about his condition.
Once they reached the location and spotted a deeply sad dog tied to a fence, lying on the frozen ground, their hearts sank.
The senior pup, named Kristoff, looked at them with tearful brown eyes, asking them to save him.
Receiving Love And Care
The animal control officers picked the dog up, wrapped him in blankets, and drove him to the shelter.
Kristoff breathed a sigh of relief because good people came to his aid during one of the most difficult periods of his life.
Shortly after Kristoff arrived at the New Jersey shelter, Dr. Nicholette Runko came to see him.
The pup was so weak that he couldn’t even stand on his paws. One of the technicians helped Dr. Runko lift him out of the cage so that she could examine him.
They gave him a bath and took care of him.
Kristoff felt glad because someone cared for him. He was sweet toward his caregivers and asked them for some love.
“We gave him a bath, but he was really sweet and he was just nuzzling his head into ours for pets the entire time we were looking at him,” Runko told GeoBeats Animals.
The medical team estimated Kristoff to be eight to ten years old.
Runko was convinced that the doggo would not have survived if he had been left outside in the cold for much longer. He was close to developing pneumonia.
While the medical team is not sure if Kristoff lived his whole life outside, they are convinced that he spent a long period of time outdoors.
Since his joints were stiff, the senior dog couldn’t walk. He started receiving antibiotics and pain relievers.
His caregivers pampered him with care and fed him nutritious food.
Luckily, his treatment worked. Kristoff began feeling better and started walking.
Hoping To Find A Loving Family
As his human friends spent more time with the doggo, they noticed that he had limited hearing and sight. However, that doesn’t stop the pup from enjoying his time with his caregivers.
Kristoff loves spending time outdoors and soaking up their love.
Due to his affectionate and gentle personality, the senior doggo stole the hearts of the shelter staff who felt sad because his owner didn’t give him love and care.
His human friends want the adorable dog to have the best possible life.
“We’re really happy that we were able to rescue him. Everyone here adores him and we all want, even if the rest of his life is short, we want it to be the best short life of that he can imagine,” Runko added.
Once all the necessary examinations are completed and his owner agrees to surrender him, Kristoff will start searching for a forever home.
