Life is not only good and happy moments. Sometimes, dark times have to come, and you have to go through and endure.
However, that’s when the best, the most human, awakens in the hearts of many people. Then, it doesn’t matter what one’s name is, where he comes from, or what kind of being it is. All that matters is to help someone or something in need.
Although it is difficult for all of us to witness the terrible images of destroyed homes and lives in Los Angeles where devastating fires are raging, our hearts melt when we see stories that highlight good people who help others in need.
This is exactly the news that celebrates a good man who didn’t think for a moment what to do when he saw a poor dog suffering in the rubble of destroyed homes.
Helping Each Other Out
In his mission to help his friends, Rick Miller, who was checking on a friend’s house affected by the fires in Altadena, California, came across a heartbreaking scene — a poor dog curled up in the rubble of homes destroyed by the Los Angeles fires.
According to his interview for CNN on January 9, 2025, upon seeing the injured, stray dog, he didn’t wait a minute but immediately went into action to save the poor canine.
He covered the pooch with a blanket to make him more comfortable before he started figuring out how to get him to safety with his friends. He was totally devastated by this sight but also very happy that he managed to save a life.
“It’s about caring for each other and like everyone needs help right now,” Miller told CNN with tears in his eyes. “Sorry for crying but it’s really emotional seeing my friends lose their houses and people losing their animals and so [we] try to help each other out.”
Soon after finding and helping the dog, Miller and his friends contacted the Pasadena Humane Society. They were happy to help the pooch despite being overbooked with rescued dogs that needed their help.
Small Acts Of Kindness
As soon as the dog was transported to the Pasadena Humane Society, an animal shelter located in Pasadena, California, he received much-needed treatment and care for his injuries.
Miller was delighted upon hearing the news that the pooch was safe and sound and that he would probably recover successfully, but he was still overwhelmed by the overall situation in his city.
“Seeing like all your friends… lose their houses and you know just trying to help them out,” Miller said. “Fortunately, our house was saved but our friends right across the street, their house is gone. That’s why you just wanna help your friends out, help your families out, help the animals out.”
This is one of the most devastating fires in Los Angeles history and many people suffered a lot in just these few days. Around 10,000 structures, including homes and offices, have been destroyed, and according to CNN, at least 10 people have tragically passed away.
Although it is so hard to swallow all this bad news, small acts of kindness like this give us hope and help us endure these dark times just like a small light at the end of a dark tunnel.
