While Lance Willis, a patrol officer, was driving down a highway in Kingsport, Tennessee in the pouring rain, he noticed that cars suddenly started slowing down.
At first, he thought that there was a car accident.
However, as Willis moved closer, he realized that a lonely German Shepherd wandering onto the highway was the reason for the delay in traffic.
Due to the poor weather conditions, the drivers could barely see the road clearly and the doggo was in danger of being hit.
Willis immediately sprung into action, determined to bring the doggo to safety.
The Doggo Gets Rescued
The German Shepherd, named Luna, was scared and confused because she was stranded in traffic.
All she wanted was to return to her forever home but she didn’t know how to find her way back.
Willis turned on his blue lights, signaling drivers to stop.
“There were cars in both lanes that were stopped, so I put on my blue lights because people usually stop when they see blue lights. I called into the radio so they knew where I was,” Trooper Willis said in a video published on Facebook.
The trooper pulled into the center lane and stepped out of his car into the heavy rain. He began ushering the dog toward him, hoping that she would trust him.
The moment Luna spotted the police officer calling her, she felt a sense of relief.
Soaking wet, the doggo began walking toward him.
Willis opened the car door and Luna casually hopped in. She sensed that she could trust the kind-hearted police officer.
Once Luna was in the car, Willis closed the door behind her.
Since he noticed that she had a collar, the trooper believed that Luna had an owner and hoped that the pup would be reunited with them very soon.
Willis drove her to a parking lot where he waited for animal control to collect Luna and take her to Petworks Animal Services, the shelter located in Kingsport.
A Reunion Everyone Hoped For
In the meantime, Luna’s owner was tirelessly searching for her. He missed her and longed to have her in his arms again.
When he came across Luna’s rescue video posted on Facebook and recognized the face of his beloved dog, Luna’s dad felt happy and relieved because she was safe.
He rushed to the shelter in order to reclaim his dog.
Just like everyone hoped for, Luna reunited with her dad who took her home right away.
The pup and her dad were happy because their nightmare came to an end and they couldn’t wait to continue enjoying their life together.
