The festive season is upon us and even our four-legged friends want to celebrate it the right way. Sadly, this is not a privilege afforded to all dogs, but only a few lucky ones.
Others, like Knox, a Great Pyrenees and Labrador mix, are still waiting for their chance at happiness.
In fact, this gentle giant is ‘celebrating’ a different kind of milestone – his two-year stay at the Missouri shelter just because he has been constantly overlooked by potential adopters.
The reason?
His hearing impairment!
Knox’s Past Is Unclear
Knox’s history is, in fact, a mystery. When he first arrived at Dogwood Animal Shelter in Osage Beach, Missouri, he was labeled as a stray dog with no information about his (potential) family.
At only a few months of age, Knox instantly warmed up to the shelter staff and earned the title of a gentle giant.
Despite his size, Knox has been a loveable, kind companion all along. However, that still wasn’t enough for him to be adopted into a nice home as he is deaf.
“His endearing nature is particularly touching considering his special need – he is deaf. Despite his hearing impairment, Knox is a happy and easy-going guy,” it is stated in his Pet Finder profile.
Lynn Ludwig, a shelter volunteer and one of the first persons to encounter Knox, posted his heartbreaking story on TikTok, making it viral in no time.
Soon enough, people from different parts of the country began to reach out to the Missouri shelter, inquiring about his situation.
So many sent their prayers and thumbs up in hopes that Knox would be adopted as soon as possible.
“Praying this beautiful baby finds his forever home, he deserves the world,” one commenter wrote.
“All I want for Christmas is for Knox to get adopted,” another added.
His Disability Is Not An Inability
Despite his unfortunate situation, Knox’s caregivers want people to know that his hearing impairment is definitely not an inability. Despite his deafness, Knox is still a happy-go-lucky pup who would fit amazingly into a loving home.
His preference is a low-key setting where he could be the only pet and take things at his own pace.
“Patience, understanding, and unconditional love are the pillars of the home he seeks… Be it leisurely strolls in nature or cozy evenings at home, Knox is ready to share his heart and sweet spirit he will bring to his forever home,” his caregivers concluded.
Knox is still waiting for the right people.
When the time comes, he will definitely make some family really happy as that’s just the way he is – a gentle giant ready to give his whole heart and soul to hoomans who show him kindness.
Good luck, Knox! We know you are a good boi!
