Even though they can handle themselves, sometimes animals need our help.
Living on the harsh and cold streets and getting themselves into sticky situations is quite common. Sometimes, they can help each other, but sometimes, only their two-legged friends can get them out.
Luckily, the world is full of hoomans who are willing to do anything in order to provide our furry friends with the life they truly deserve.
Rescue Mission
While taking out the trash, a resident of Austin, Texas, Cassie Jo, heard something quite strange.
After stopping in her tracks, she noticed that they were actually the cries of a puppy. She did some investigating and found a small Jack Russel puppy who was tangled in chicken wire and stuck in a storm drain.
Wasting no time, Jo called her apartment maintenance team to attempt to free the pup. Unfortunately, no matter how hard they tried, they were unsuccessful.
They decided to call their local citizen hotline but were shocked when they found out that assistance could take up to 24 or 48 hours. Knowing they didn’t have too much time, they decided to contact the Austin Fire Department.
Help Is On The Way
The Austin Fire Department immediately grabbed their gear and headed to the location.
“The puppy, who we now call Poinsettia, kept slipping deeper into the drain until one firefighter bravely climbed down and managed to rescue her,” wrote Austin Pets Alive on Facebook.
After she was rescued, this sweet girl was taken in by the Austin Animal Center and was then transferred to Austin Pets Alive (APA!) for a much-needed medical assessment.
“Poinsettia was safe, but her battle was far from over. After making it to Austin Animal Center, she started having seizures. Now, Poinsettia is fighting to live under the care of our medical team – and we’re fighting right along with her. But we can only do it with your help!” they stated.
The APA! placed Poinsettia on medications to help with her seizures as well as antibiotics to help with her infections.
Even though they were concerned about a possible leg injury, the medical team revealed that they found no signs of pain or lameness.
Finally, Poinsettia was safe and on her road to recovery. Considering that her initial care costs were estimated at $500, the Austin shelter decided to take this opportunity to remind everybody of the importance of donations.
“With the month of December already halfway through, your support is urgently needed to help pets like Poinsettia battle whatever comes their way. Don’t forget, your gift is MATCHED up to $100,000 right now! Will you help pets like her today – and have your gift generously doubled?” they said.
So, if you want to offer a helping hand, feel free to donate to the cause and help a furry friend out.
