Many dogs dream of a forever home and a happy family but are left to fend for themselves on the harsh streets.
However, not every dog that has a home is happy and the reasons can vary. Sadly, in most cases, it is a consequence of neglect and abuse, but sometimes it can also be a combination of unfortunate circumstances.
That was best seen one day when rescuers came across a puppy in a horrible state because of her many health issues. Her family agreed to surrender her so that these people could help bring her life back.
They immediately rushed her to the Panther Creek Animal Hospital so that the doctors could examine her and start treating her.
Terrible Condition
As soon as six-week-old Penelope came to this hospital in Little Elm, Dr. Kim knew that there was something seriously wrong with her.
She was having trouble walking, her gums were pale, she had sores all over, lots of hair loss, and an ulcer in her eye. Aside from that, she was very weak, dehydrated, and malnourished, weighing only 1.11 lb.
After they gave her something to eat, they also found tapeworms. Aside from that, when given water, she absolutely did not know what to do with it, so they had to add it to her food.
Yet, what shocked these people the most was the seizure that Penelope suffered at one point.
It was a truly heartbreaking sight for them, but they were happy that she was safe now, and that she wasn’t in Hilltown anymore, where they found her.
Penelope was already in a foster home, and taking care of her required a lot of time.
Although her foster mom knew it would be difficult, she still did not want to give up on her and decided to do everything to put a smile back on her face.
Getting Better Every Day
The foster mom and rescuers were over the moon when they saw that Penelope was feeling better the next day. She was walking on her own and her tail was finally wagging a bit, which was a great sign.
Every new day was a new battle, but Penelope proved to be a great warrior and always emerged victorious. Aside from her saviors and her foster mom, her new furry friend, Jade, also helped her on her way to recovery. He was much bigger than her but turned out to be a very gentle dog.
In a short period, Penelope also gained some weight and was feeling stronger and more able to endure all life’s difficulties. Aside from that, the doctors continued taking care of her.
When she was seven weeks old, her health got much better and she stopped having seizures. However, she was very itchy, so the doctors tried to find out the cause of it.
They tested her for mange but it came back negative, so the doctors gave her new medications and they all hoped and kept their fingers crossed for the itching to finally go away.
To their delight, that soon happened and Peneople totally recovered and transformed.
Wonderful News
After just twenty days in a foster home with her loving and caring mom, Penelope was a whole new dog. Her major health issues were solved, her skin condition was much better and she wasn’t itchy anymore, and most importantly, the wounds on her soul also healed.
When she was almost ten weeks old, her foster mom saw that Penelope was totally ready for a new beginning. Although it was hard for her to say goodbye, she was looking forward to her happy ending.
She did not need to wait for that moment for too long because one wonderful family fell in love with Penelope so much that they immediately decided to adopt her.
Penelope, whose name is now Pippie, went from barely surviving her horrible health conditions to being in a warm home with a loving family.
Considering everything she’s been through, from the unhappy life with her past family to the horrible seizures that made her life miserable, she deserves nothing less.
