Pete’s life was miserable. Instead of loving him immensely and taking him on adventures, his owner kept him in a cage his whole life.
Deprived of love and proper care, Pete got sick.
His careless owner refused to get him the necessary medical attention and nurse him back to health.
When the pup most needed his compassion and care, they rejected him and left him on the streets at night.
Pete started roaming around, feeling lost and confused.
Giving Hope To A Desperate Pup
A kind-hearted woman spotted the sick pup and felt compelled to help him.
Pete was frightened, but the good human fed him and managed to coax him into her office.
She called her friend, Aron Hughes, a dog rescuer, and asked him to help the abandoned dog.
Hughes agreed to help and came to his friend’s office to pick the dog up.
He felt heartbroken when he met Pete. The doggo had a bad skin condition and was scared of humans. Every time Hughes cuddled him, the dog winced.
“He was terrified. He would wince when I went to touch him, expecting to be hit,” Hughes wrote on Instagram.
The rescuer drove him to the clinic. The vet examined the dog, ran the necessary tests, and took skin scrapes.
Pete was shaking with fear. Hughes talked to him in a gentle voice, trying to comfort him.
He promised him that he would help him.
The dog was diagnosed with blood parasites and anemia, as well as fungal and bacterial skin infections.
The vet took excellent care of him. She gave him medicated baths and the necessary medicine.
Hughes visited Pete often, wishing to cheer him up and gain his trust. He sat with him in his crate and stroked him.
Pete sat in the corner of his crate. He had a heartbreaking expression on his face.
The rescuer assumed that his life was extremely difficult.
However, as days passed, he got used to Hughes’ presence but still didn’t trust him.
Feeling Safe For The First Time
After spending twenty days at the vet’s, the pup was discharged.
His rescuer took him home and continued his course of medication. He showered him with love and took him on walks with his other rescue dogs.
Pete noticed his kindness and started believing that good people exist. Slowly, he began letting go of his fears and realizing that he was safe.
He enjoyed spending time with his rescuer and snuggling with him. Pete loved belly rubs.
As time went by, the doggo looked much better. His skin healed and beautiful new strands of fur began regrowing.
Eventually, Pete made a complete recovery and turned into a handsome pup.
Hughes knew that he was ready to start searching for a forever home.
The dog captured the heart of a wonderful woman who promised to give him a life filled with love.
When Pete moved in with his mom, he was overjoyed. He discovered the unconditional love that his heart had always yearned for.
I’m happy for you, Pete. I hope that all abandoned dogs and strays will get the help they desperately need.
