Unfortunately, nowadays, shelters are full and many canines have to spend their best days in dark and cold kennels, instead of in a warm home with a loving family.
To make matters worse, many of those shelters are running out of capacity, and people who work there, despite their best intentions, are forced to put the dogs on the euthanasia lists.
That was also the fate of one Pit Bull who was surrendered in a Maryland shelter. Soon after she ended up there, she was set to be euthanized.
However, a miracle happened as her microchip revealed incredible details about her.
Shocking, Yet Amazing Realization
As soon as the people from Laila’s Legacy Animal Rescue found out about a Pit Bull named Ivy, they decided to react.
This poor dog was in very bad condition when she originally came to the shelter in Maryland, as she was very emaciated with skin issues and wounds on her legs and paws.
However, these people became even more determined in their intention to put a smile back on this dog’s face when they found out something amazing about her via the microchip.
Although Ivy looked quite young, it turned out that her microchip dated back 19 years, which meant that she was a very old dog. It was a shocking, yet amazing realization for them.
The rescue organization posted a video via their Instagram account, @lailaslegacy_, showing Ivy in the arms of a good soul, with a big smile on her face as if she knew that the terrible fate had passed by her.
“We’re so happy we could bust her out today before being euthanized over the holiday weekend,” they wrote in the caption of the video.
This video melted many hearts and there were numerous reactions to it.
“19?! That’s amazing. So happy she will have a home to live out her golden years.” one user wrote, while another added: “I can’t believe she’s actually 19! What a perfect love.”
The third happily stated: “Look at that tail wag and that smile on her face!!! 😭☺️😍”
Happiest Ending
In the same video, the rescue organization stated that Ivy still needs a full-time foster to continue her journey toward better days.
It did not take long before @the_chalk_house_of_mutts stepped in and gave this senior dog a foster home. There, the fosterers found out that she was a huge tennis lover, but unfortunately, she wasn’t so good with other dogs.
For that reason, these people worked the most on this issue during her stay with them. After over a hundred days spent surrounded by love and attention, Ivy could no longer remove the smile from her face, and her relationship with other dogs became much better.
She spent 113 days in a foster home, but on October 28, the happiest possible news finally arrived – a wonderful family fell in love with Ivy and decided to give her a forever home.
From a forgotten canine that should have been euthanized, this senior dog was able to meet her happy ending and, thanks to good souls and one amazing detail on the microchip, will spend her golden years in the most beautiful way.
“Love you Ivy, we are forever grateful to you for so many happy memories!” they wrote at the end of the video caption.
