Puppy Family Who Was Left By The Road Shocked Vets With Their Fast Recovery

Puppy Family Who Was Left By The Road Shocked Vets With Their Fast Recovery

It’s no secret that the animal shelters in the United States aren’t in the best shape.

According to Forbes, about 6.3 million animals enter US shelters each year. Unfortunately, only 4.1 million get adopted. This leaves the rest of them to spend their days locked up in kennels, wondering the same thing they did when they first got there – why nobody likes them.

A tiny family abandoned by the side of a busy road wondered why their owner cruelly left them there without thinking of their well-being.

Everything Will Be Just Fine

Luckily, they were eventually picked up by the amazing people at the Three Little Pitties Rescue, Texas.

“It was heartbreaking. They were crammed into a tiny, filthy kennel left on a sidewalk. Persephone was tied to the kennel by a leash, unable to help her babies,” Melissa Fears, the founder of the Texas based rescue said in an interview

But what’s even worse is that the pups spent a couple of days in this state. People walked past them for days and not a single one of them stopped to help. One person did end up opening their cage, but it wasn’t until a Good Samaritan decided to call the shelter that they got help.

Nobody knew why they were left like this, but Fears had her suspicions.

“Our best guess is that Persephone’s owner didn’t spay her, and when she had puppies, it was just too much for them to handle. Sadly, this isn’t unusual – pregnant or nursing dogs are abandoned on the streets here all the time. People feel overwhelmed, and it’s the dogs who pay the price,” she said.

The second the shelter staff had them in their care, they contacted Alexis, informing her of the situation and asking if she was able to take them in as fosters.

Without any hesitation, she happily took them in and began a new chapter in their lives.

Because of the condition they were found in, it came as no surprise that the pups were quite sick, one of them even being in critical condition.

“The sickest puppy couldn’t even stand; her body temperature was only around 90°F, when normal is 101-102°F, and her gums, ears, and belly were almost white. We honestly didn’t know if she’d survive that first night. She was so fragile that even gentle touches made her whimper,” Fears said.

Luckily, one puppy was healthier than the others. This brought relief to the rescuers as they hoped that her siblings would follow in her pawsteps too.

After a tough recovery journey, every single pup made an incredible recovery. Everybody was so relieved when they realized that this family was going to lead a happy and healthy life after all.

Now, all that is left is to find a loving forever home for these adorable pups.

“The puppies would be perfect for an active family or someone who can keep up with their playful energy. They’ll need patience, love, and a bit of training to help them grow into the best dogs they can be,” Fears said.

When it comes to their mom, however, Fears thinks that she would do awesome in a home with another male dog. She is super well behaved and the loyalest companion of them all.
