Owner Tricks Her Puppies To Discover How They Keep Escaping The Yard And It’s Absolutely Hilarious

Every doggo parent knows just how clever their pups can be.

But going hand in hand with this cleverness is curiosity. A pup can see something they found intriguing, for example a squirrel, who they would immediately follow as soon as they see them running away.

That is why many dog owners have to make a fenced garden to ensure that their furry friends remain safe.

However, even with a fence, many clever dogs can still figure out a way to make a run for it.

One Smart Pup

After noticing that their two pups, Logan and Leia, kept escaping from their backyard, these owners decided to figure out how.

They thoroughly searched their property for any possible exits, but they simply couldn’t find a single one. That is when their mom decided to play a little trick on them

She made her way to the other side of the fence and started calling out to the pups. When they arrived, she began encouraging them to come to her, hoping they would show her the exact way they managed to get out.

And they did!

In an Instagram post captioned ‘Puppies have been escaping and we have finally figured out how. Cheeky girl Leia,’ the owner showed the whole internet just how smart her pups were.

The video showed Leia running towards the end of the side gate, pushing it open and squeezing her body out.

What Did The Internet Say?

It came as no surprise that the video went completely viral. The comment section was full of dog owners who shared their own stories.

One commentator praised the owner, stating that they had to do something similar too: “Very smart move! I did this with my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Sneaky little minx! Would flatten herself and crawl completely flat under the gate that nearly touched the ground. Never seen anything like it.”

“We caught our dog climbing over the fence in our yard. I went out and yelled her name while she was literally perched on top of the fence and could go either way. She looked at me, looked down and decided to just jump and keep on with the escape plan. Luckily she would just wander for 10 minutes and then come sit by the front door to be let back in,” stated another.

One person said that cats do this too: “Did that with my cats. Now their escape paths are secured and my a** isn’t hopping fences anymore.”

Keep It Secure

If you would like to keep your clever pets inside your yard, here are things you should consider.

Choose the right fence: your fence should be at least six feet tall. Also, avoid any gaps and chain-link fences as they allow your pets to climb over them.

Create dig-proof boundaries: if your furry friend loves to dig, consider investing in chicken wire or concrete slabs and burying them along the bottom of your fence line. This will definitely prevent them from digging their way out.

Fence toppers: if your pet likes to jump, fence toppers can prevent them from climbing or jumping out. Some toppers even curve inward, making it especially hard for pets to get any kind of leverage.

Secure gates: gates can be a weak point if they don’t close properly. So, make sure to have gates that are self-closing, or consider adding locks if your pets know how to push them open.

These are just some tips that will allow you to create a secure and enjoyable yard space where your clever pets are less likely to escape.
