Working as a police officer is by no means an easy job. You get to see some scary things every once in a while.
However, I think that one thing that often comes as a shock to a lot of them is seeing abandoned dogs chained and left to starve.
The heartbreak on the pup’s face can make anyone feel awful. This is exactly what happened to police officers in Pennsylvania.
They were just going about their jobs as usual when they were alerted to this dog who was chained to a ruined shelter. He had no way to survive, but luckily, the kind officers called for help immediately.
Rescuers Are On Their Way
After the officers alerted the Pennsylvania SPCA, the rescuers grabbed their gear and rushed to the location where the dog was seen.
When they finally arrived, they were shocked to learn that there wasn’t just one dog, but three in total, and all of them were living in awful conditions.
They all looked seriously emaciated and sick. It’s hard to even tell how long they had been suffering like this.
Their bowls were dusty and empty. They tried telling their rescuers that they desperately needed food and water.
The excitement on their faces showed the Pennsylvanian rescuers that these dogs were really happy to be found. They finally felt like they had a chance.
In a Facebook post, they wrote: “The scene was more harrowing than we could have imagined. Tied up with chains to makeshift shelters were Bam, Beau and Brenda.”
Just as they examined the scene and made sure there weren’t any more dogs there, they immediately took the three dogs and transported them to a clinic.
The veterinarians placed them on a treatment that would help them gain back their strength. They also treated their wounds.
The Three Dogs Have Recovered
All three dogs received the proper medical attention and all the rescuers and the veterinarians could do now was wait and see if they would get better.
A person working for SPCA told The Dodo: “It’ll be a bit of time before Bam is ready. He is very sweet, but we think he isn’t feeling well enough for his personality to truly shine. We’ll take the next several days and maybe even weeks to get to know him and make sure he knows he’s safe.”
As time went on, all three dogs were doing a lot better. Some were healing slower than others, but they were still making amazing progress with each passing day.
Beau, on the other hand, was moved to a greenhouse in the shelter. They only take the adoptable animals there, so it was a very good sign.
Brenda was also ready to find her forever home and these dogs were just the sweetest. They deserve to find someone really special.
Even though they will likely be separated when they are adopted, they will still get to live a wonderful life with someone special.
In their post, the SPCA wrote: “With each day that passes, all three dogs are becoming stronger and learning to open their hearts up to people. They may have been forgotten in the past, but with us, they never will be.”
While we don’t know what happens next in their story, one thing we do know is that these people truly care for their well-being and they won’t stop until they find someone perfect for these dogs.
