Coming to work one early morning, a woman named Breanna Gilliam thought it was going to be just a regular day at the Yadkin County Animal Shelter.
As she was walking in, she thought she saw something by the sign at the end of the driveway. But, since it was so early in the morning, she didn’t think much of it.
That was until she heard barks coming from that location. And, the second she noticed them, she knew what was going on.
You Are Safe Now, Sweetie
When she finally approached the sign, Gilliam was left absolutely heartbroken.
“When I walked out there, the poor girl was tied to our sign. She was very scared to start with and wouldn’t come to me,” Gilliam told The Dodo.
The pup, now named Millie, was found tied up to a sign that stated this exact thing should be done. The sign read ‘Abandoning an animal is cruel and illegal. Please do not leave animals unattended at this location at any time.’
Unfortunately, whoever abandoned this sweet girl completely ignored the sign, leaving her stranded out in the dark.
Luckily, after spending some time with her, Gilliam managed to reassure Millie that she was only there to help.
After taking her inside the shelter, the woman noticed that Millie was super clean and in perfect health. This meant that she wasn’t a stray dog and that somebody cared for her.
“She definitely appeared to be an indoor dog by the looks of it. Very potty trained and calm and had such a sweet and submissive demeanor.” Gilliam said.
A Happy Ending
Because of Millie’s impeccable condition, the shelter didn’t see a reason to hold her back. Therefore, they took to their social media, told her story, and put her up for adoption.
Since she was such an adorable girl, it didn’t take too long for a kind hooman to notice her.
“I had seen their Facebook post about her being abandoned and left tied to their sign, and it literally brought me to tears. Something about her face and her eyes really reached into my soul. I immediately reached out to them about adopting her,” Kathy Culler, Millie’s new mom, told The Dodo.
Culler and she had recently mourned the loss of their adorable rescue pup. So, when they saw Millie, they believed it was the right time to welcome another furry friend into their life.
The shelter had set up a little meet and greet for Culler and Millie to see whether it was a true fit or not. The second the two met in the shelter’s hallway, they fell head over heels for each other.
And, just like that, Millie had found a loving forever home with a mom who promised to give her the moon, the stars, and everything in between.
“As soon as we got in the car, she made her way into my lap for the ride home, and as we passed the sign that she had been tied to, I promised her she would never be abandoned again,” Culler said.
Ever since then, adorable Millie has been thriving in her new home. She now has incredibly furry siblings who love spending time with her and a family who showers her with kisses all the time!
Could it get any better than that?
“I can’t understand why anyone would abandon her. Someone else’s loss was definitely our gain,” Culler concluded.
