Shelter Staff Was In Disbelief After This Family Surrendered 2 Healthy Dogs For Euthanasia

There’s no such thing as a broken dog. It’s always about the circumstances, the treatment, and the amount of love and effort you invest in raising it to be a good pooch.

Sadly, not all owners share this perspective. Some give up right from the start, allowing their furry companions to face a sad end.

Godric and Sadie recently experienced this heartbreak. They were both surrendered, with their owners asking the shelter to euthanize them.

Godric’s Backstory

Hearts For Paws, based in Davis, California, shared this heartbreaking story on their social media.

A family arrived at Solano County Animal Care, bringing their family dog, a three-year-old Chocolate Lab, Godric, with a shocking request – to euthanize him. According to the family, Godric misbehaved by biting their baby.

“They brought Godric the 3 yr chocolate lab in, and told the shelter he bit the baby who had crawled into his food bowl,” the rescue stated on Instagram.

What the shelter found odd about their story was that, ever since his arrival, Godric had never had a single outburst. He was as sweet as he looked, behaving perfectly well around strangers and his caregivers.

Even though the shelter never denied that this tragic accident had happened, they just couldn’t rationalize the family’s request. Instead of rehoming him or simply surrendering the dog to a shelter, they specifically asked for Godric to be euthanized.

Fortunately, seeing his true nature, the shelter decided against this request.

Then, another heartbreaking surprise unfolded!

Another Heartbreaking Surprise

One day, Godric was out with his caregivers when he shared a sweet moment with another dog. The two seemed to know each other, sniffing and wagging their tails.

They later came to a shocking realization. The dog Godric cheerfully greeted was Sadie, a six-year-old Plott Hound who had come from the same family just a month earlier.

Shockingly, the family had made the same request for Sadie, too. They wanted her to be euthanized because she allegedly growled at their baby.

The dogs spent some time together, sharing joyful moments until Godric was happily adopted into another family.

Sadly, Sadie’s situation was not ideal, even though she was a great dog, too. She lost the opportunity to be adopted alongside her former sibling and now was one of the oldest shelter residents, constantly overlooked by everyone.

“She is a great dog & there is no reason she can’t be adopted! More on her: Sadie is a 6-7 year Plott hound, spayed, good with dogs and people,” HFP wrote on social media.

Despite all this, Sadie is still holding onto hope that her new family is just around the corner.

She was recently transferred to Miranda’s Rescue in Fortuna, California, where she awaits her new beginning. After all the heartbreak she has endured, Sadie surely deserves a family who will love her and embrace her with an open heart.

Hopefully, that happens soon!
