Every dog’s biggest wish in life is to be in a warm home with a loving family. Unfortunately, not all of them are lucky enough to have such a blessing.
Most of these helpless furry creatures are forced to fend for themselves on the street or, at best, be accepted at some pet-friendly shelter.
Sadly, some dogs, even at the beginning of their lives, must face the worst as the reality is that most shelters do not have enough capacity to care for all the animals they receive in their kennels.
Then, those same animals, mostly dogs, become sheer numbers on the long euthanasia list. This was exactly the fate that awaited one unfortunate dog in Oklahoma City, who was forgotten by everyone.
He Was “Shut Down”
Being a Bulldog breed is not easy. A one-year-old English Bulldog mix named Grimm knows this best.
Sadly, this young dog never had the chance to know true love and happiness. Early in his life, when he was barely one year old, he ended up in Oklahoma City Animal Welfare, an animal shelter in Oklahoma.
He was very shy and withdrawn when he came to the shelter, so the staff labeled him as “timid, shut down, and avoidant.”
As such, he passed under the radar of potential adopters, and during that time the shelter was increasingly filled with new dogs. Since there is no mercy in shelters like this one, after only five days they put him on the euthanasia list to increase the facility’s capacity.
Everything indicated that this poor dog, forgotten by everyone, would cross the rainbow bridge completely alone, as if he had never been alive.
He Suddenly Blossomed
Just when everything was ready for Grimm’s euthanasia, a true miracle happened. A loving foster family stepped up at the last moment and decided to give this dog a chance.
They could not come to terms with the fact that a dog that is still “just a baby” would be so easily euthanized. That’s why they decided to give him a foster home for as long as necessary.
These people could not even dream how much happiness their noble move would bring to this dog. He just blossomed like a beautiful flower.
“Once we got him home and he realized he was safe – he turned into a completely different dog,” @salvage.souls wrote in the TikTok video featuring Grimm’s transformation from a “shut down” dog to a happy and healthy English Bulldog mix puppy.
In the video, this TikTok user also emphasized that dogs should not be judged by their behavior in the shelter because even the most cheerful furry creatures can fall into depression in that cold and dark place.
At the end, she wrote that “Grimm is ONLY alive today because someone said YES to fostering him.” That fateful “YES” completely changed his life and put an eternal smile on his face.
We hope that his smile will soon be even bigger when he meets his happiest ending in a forever home.
