The day when Mr. Pickles was left chained up in a back alley in Brooklyn was the worst day of his life.
He felt betrayed and broken.
With eyes filled with sorrow, the dog looked into the distance, still holding on to a tiny ray of hope that someone would set him free and show him some compassion.
Just when Mr. Pickles started believing that nobody would jump in to help him, a good man noticed him and rushed to his aid.
The Heartbreaking Sight
The man stopped a woman named Julie and told her about the chained Pittie in the nearby alley.
Julie is the president of The Franklin Angus Fund, a non-profit organization based in Brooklyn, which provides grants to Pit Bulls in rescue centers and shelters.
As soon as she heard about the dog’s terrible situation, she rushed to his side.
The moment Julie saw the dog, later named Mr. Pickles, looking at her with tearful eyes, her heart shattered.
He was in pretty bad shape, skinny and covered in old and new wounds.
“And there he was. The most broken dog I had ever seen. He was in a back alley, surrounded by filth, tethered to a short chain,” Julie told The Dodo.
Julie promised the dog that she would set him free. The police officers and many good humans who happened to be there joined in to help.
Mr. Pickles was hopeless and he stared at the ground with a heartbreaking expression on his face. He still couldn’t believe that he would receive help.
It became obvious that the dog knew nothing but human cruelty.
“Nobody had ever been nice to this dog a day in his life. That much was clear,” Julie added.
She gave him treats and spoke to him in a gentle voice, trying to gain his trust and convince him to accept her help.
After forty-five minutes, Mr. Pickles surrendered to Julie and decided to trust her.
She rushed him to the vet.
Upon his arrival at the clinic, the doggo froze with fear. The vet managed to win him over and give him the necessary medical attention.
Julie was moved when Mr. Pickles slightly wagged his tail as if he wanted to thank her for rescuing him.
The Happy Life All Dogs Deserve
When the dog started recovering, Ready For Rescue stepped in and placed him in a wonderful foster home.
Mr. Pickles’ foster mom, Gretchen, gave him time to relax and showed him how love felt like. Thanks to her affection and care, the dog came out of his shell.
He overcame his trauma and put his past behind him.
A great family adopted Mr. Pickles. He changed his name to River and started a brand-new life.
His humans gave him all their love and he felt cherished and adored.
His parents are delighted with River.
“He is truly a special, special soul. We have had the most amazing experience rescuing him. He is such a loving dog,” River’s mom, Cathy told The Dodo.
They are aware that they can’t erase his past, but they will do anything to make his future bright and happy.
River lives his best life. He enjoys sailing with his dad and cuddling with his family
