A mama dog and her two pups had nobody to help them as they desperately roamed around a road near Lake Trask, in Mason County, Washington.
When it started to rain, the worried mother and her kids trembled with cold as they searched for shelter.
Cold and soaked wet, the canine family hoped that kind humans would notice them and take them somewhere safe and warm.
The Canine Family Receives Help
As soon as the officers at Shelton Animal Control learned that three dogs were struggling on the road, they contacted Caryn, a volunteer at the Humane Society of Mason County, located in Belfair, Washington.
Caryn reached out to a long-time dog trapper named D.D. Ponder and the two headed to rescue the pups.
It was already night when the dedicated rescuers arrived. Having checked out the area, they set multiple traps with delicious treats.
Once they saw the sorrowful mama dog and her two pups, the rescue team felt heartbroken. They imagined how hopeless they must have felt.
The rescuers started working on building trust with the dogs.
The puppies, Parker and Petey were curious and they approached the good humans who easily captured the friendly siblings.
The mother dog, later named Laila, was distrustful and didn’t want to go near the traps.
Caryn and D.D. Ponder tried using the puppies to lure Laila into the crate, but they soon realized that it wouldn’t work.
The concerned mama dog approached her children in order to make sure that they were safe, but she refused to enter the trap.
Laila didn’t seem hungry and she refused to eat the chicken that the rescuers offered her.
After trying to capture the mother dog for hours, both Caryn and D.D. Ponder had to go home to care for their pets.
Before they left, the rescuers asked a good-hearted resident named Pete to check up on Laila and her kids.
Pete agreed. He offered some ham to Laila and when he saw that the doggo loved it, Pete left pieces of ham into the crate.
Unable to resist the treats, the dog entered the trap and she was finally safe!
Feeling Hopeful About Their Future
The Humane Society of Mason County took them into their care.
The canine family was tired, but they were ready for a new beginning in life.
“After 20 hours, with volunteers keeping vigilance all day and night, mom and babies were finally secured! They were exhausted and so ready for a better life,” the rescue wrote in a Facebook post.
Both Laila and her puppies breathed a sigh of relief when they were finally taken into foster care.
Their fosters gave them time to decompress and started showering them with love.
The canine family quickly settled in and they started enjoying the warmth and comfort of a home.
The next and most important step for the dogs is finding their forever families.
Parker has already stolen the heart of a family who wants to adopt him.
Petey is currently looking for a forever home and Laila will be ready for adoption shortly.
Hopefully, all three dogs will soon start the happiest chapter in their lives. They deserve to be cherished and immensely loved.
