Alan Calimbas, a realtor and dog rescuer, felt heartbroken when he came across Pearl’s story on social media.
The adorable pup was in an overcrowded shelter in Riverside County, California, and scheduled to be euthanized to make space the next day.
Pearl was very far away from Calimbas and he only had 24 hours to save her life.
Since there was no time to arrange transport, this good man promised to personally pick the dog up. He immediately booked a plane ticket and flew to Los Angeles.
Upon arrival at the airport, Calimbas rushed to the shelter.
The traffic was hectic and time was running out, and Alan was worried that he wouldn’t arrive in time.
The Sweet Taste Of Freedom
Calimbas kept calling the shelter staff and reassuring them that he was on his way to pick the dog up just like he promised.
A huge burden fell off his shoulders when he finally reached the shelter and collected Pearl.
He took her outside on her freedom walk just five minutes before the dreaded deadline.
Pearl realized that she was free and began wagging her tail and jumping around.
Calimbas was shocked by how malnourished she was.
Although Pearl was exhausted, there was a sense of relief on her face. She looked at her rescuer with eyes filled with curiosity and hope.
Calimbas wanted to celebrate her freedom by taking her out for her first burger.
“A lot of people say you shouldn’t be feeding that. It’s like there’s no way I’m not treating her to the best that life has to offer!” Calimbas told Cuddle Buddies.
Feeling Carefree For The First Time In Her Life
After Pearl enjoyed her burger, her rescuer took her to PetSmart.
The doggo was so happy and curious. She didn’t know what toys were, but she was very interested in them!
Pearl kept running around the store and smelling everything. Her hero bought her everything that she showed an interest in.
Once Calimbas took her to a dog-friendly hotel room, it became obvious that Pearl had never lived in a real home.
She looked at the TV with wonder, not knowing what it was.
Pearl kept exploring the hotel room. She circled around the bed until her rescuer threw some toys on it.
At that moment, the pup jumped on the bed and played with her new toys. She looked so carefree and happy as she rested her head on the bed and wagged her tail.
“She just laid out, was rolling around, having a good time. You could tell she felt safe for the first time in a long time. It was amazing to see how happy she was,” Calimbas added.
The next morning Pearl was a little bit nervous while she was getting ready for the first flight of her life.
She had no idea she was on her way to meet the most important people in her life – her forever family.
Meeting Her Humans
Pearl’s new family was waiting to meet her at the airport.
They fell in love with her the moment they saw her. The pup felt an immediate connection to them, too, and she covered them in kisses.
Before the doggo headed to her forever home, she kissed Calimbas goodbye, wishing to thank him for giving her a second chance at life.
Pearl lives her best life with her family who adores her.
Every day is a new adventure for her. She loves going hiking with her humans and enjoying the beautiful views.
What she adores the most is cuddling with them and soaking up their immense love.
