When staff members at Bloomfield Animal Shelter (BAS), the shelter in New Jersey, arrived at work one morning, they were in disbelief to find two abandoned dogs at the gate.
The canines looked at the rescuers with a disillusioned expression on their faces.
The pups’ eyes reflected the deep sorrow they felt in their hearts after they watched their owner walking away from them.
Once the staff rushed to comfort the devastated doggos, they realized that they were tied to a fence and left with a note.
The Dogs’ Story
The good humans’ hearts shattered in pieces after they reading the note of the canines’ owner that said:
“Hi. I am sorry, but my babies deserve to live their golden years happy and in a good, warm home for the winter. I can’t take care of them while living on the street. Our home was foreclosed on, putting us out in the street.”
The desperate owner asked the staff not to euthanize the dogs and to keep them together.
As the rescuers continued reading the note, they found out that the dogs were named Shadow and Tiger, and that they were brothers born on October 12th 2009.
The writer of the note described the dogs as friendly toward other pets and affectionate toward humans.
The rescuers felt desperate because they didn’t have any room for the abandoned dogs.
They posted a call for help on social media, trying to find a foster home for Shadow and Tiger.
Fortunately, Scooby-Doo’s Rescue Mission (SDRM), an animal rescue located in Lincoln Park, New Jersey, jumped in and offered to take the siblings in.
Siblings Start Smiling Again
Christine Biggiani Bakelaar, the owner of the rescue, dashed to the shelter’s headquarters to collect Shadow and Tiger.
The sweet pups stole her heart the moment she saw their photos and the sadness reflected in their eyes.
When Bakelaar picked Shadow and Tiger up from the shelter, they started smiling as if they realized that from now on, they would never be left alone.
After she read the owners’ note once again, Bakelaar realized that she shared a birthday with Shadow and Tiger. Having discovered this, the giant-hearted woman was sure that the dogs were destined to cross her path.
She found a wonderful foster home on a farm for the brokenhearted brothers.
Once Shadow and Tiger moved in with their foster family, they were given some time to decompress.
Soaking Up Their Foster’s Love
As their loving foster doted on them and showered them with love, the pups started realizing that they were safe.
They absorbed all the affection their foster family gave them.
The New Jersey rescue hopes to find the canines’ previous family in order to learn more about their medical background.
Bakelaar felt sad because of the situation the dogs’ owner was in.
The kind human hoped that they would get in touch with her. She wanted the canines’ owner to know that Shadow and Tiger were alright and that they would not be separated.
“If anyone on here sees this and knows the people, please have them reach out to me. No questions asked, other than I want to know more about them, and I truly [want to] let them know that their boys are OK. I promise never to separate them. I want them to visit them. Or at least allow me to send them updates…” the rescuer wrote in a Facebook comment.
The crew continues to wait in order to see whether the dogs’ former owner will contact them.
In case the owner doesn’t reach out to the rescue, Shadow and Tiger will need to turn a new page in their life and search for their forever home.
For now, the adorable seniors will continue thriving in their foster home and enjoying life on the farm.
