I wish every pup in this world felt worthy of love.
Sadly, many canines live in fear without discovering what true love and happiness feel like.
Aaliah was one of many anxious shelter dogs who needed a loving home and parents’ love, which would chase away all her fears.
The canine spent her days at Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons, located in East Hampton, New York. With a timid look in her eyes, Aaliah was cowering in her kennel, waiting for someone to notice her.
As time passed, potential adopters ignored the shy Aaliah and she stopped believing that her dream would ever come true.
She couldn’t have imagined the surprise that destiny prepared for her.
Winning Aaliah’s Heart
Although Aaliah’s caregivers took care of her and gave her a lot of love, she couldn’t get rid of her fear that was holding her down.
The staff rooted for their sweet girl and hoped that she would find her happiness.
Things started to change for the better after a wonderful couple, Gabby and her partner, met Aaliah.
Having learned that she lived at the shelter for two years, the good-hearted people felt sad and decided to give her a chance.
“Knowing that she had been there for so long, just kind of tugged at our heartstrings,” Gabby told The Dodo.
The couple started visiting the pup, wishing to win her heart and give her a forever home.
On their first visit, Aaliah’s caregivers brought her into a room, and the scared doggo ran to the corner.
While she was sitting there with the saddest expression on her face, Gabby and her partner approached her. They started giving her treats and stroking her.
The pup enjoyed feeling the loving touch of the human hand, although she still remained cautious. After she would take a treat from their hand, she would take a step back.
The couple continued coming to the shelter and spending time with Aaliah.
Little by little, the doggo began trusting them and her fear started disappearing.
When Aaliah let her parents pet her without giving her treats, the giant-hearted people realized that the doggo was ready to move in with them.
A New Chapter In The Pup’s Life
During the first couple of days, Aaliah preferred staying at her crate. She needed some time to decompress.
Every time her parents arrived home, Aaliah felt excited and she would start wagging her tail. However, due to her anxiety, she kept her distance.
Her parents kept encouraging her and showering her with attention.
Soon, Aaliah started displaying her personality.
“Her personality came out in bursts. One week she would play with a toy. The next week she would be more comfortable when we went out on a walk,” Gabby added.
Aaliah’s parents often took her to a dog park. She enjoyed hanging out with the other canines. They helped her build confidence and come out of her shell.
A month later, Aaliah was no longer a frightened dog who shied from human love. She became an affectionate doggo.
Every time she wants her parents to pet her, she puts her head under their hands. She soaks up their attention with a smile on her face.
The pup’s parents often take her to the East Hampton shelter for training classes. The staff is overjoyed to see their sweet girl who greets her human friends with a lot of love.
Her mom is extremely proud of the progress that the doggo made so far.
“I literally beam with pride just watching her. I’m so excited to see the growth she will continue to make with us,” Gabby said. The pup has her own Instagram account where she likes to share glimpses of her life with her beloved family.
