Growing up on the streets isn’t easy.
For many animals, this means that they completely lose trust in their two-legged friends. This makes it significantly harder for kind hoomans to catch them and take them somewhere safe.
More often than not, hoomans have to spend hours trying to catch these sweet guys, and things were no different with Lunch Lady.
As a pup who spent most of her life trying to survive, Lunch Lady found herself wandering around the Louisiana SPCA. Catching her not only took time but also the efforts of several staff members.
Easy Does It
As soon as they managed to get her into their facility, the hoomans made sure to scan her for a microchip so they could know if anybody was missing a pup.
“She was examined by our veterinarian and treated for minor medical issues. After a few days, she was not claimed, so she was microchipped, vaccinated, and ready for adoption. She got her name due to her being such a lady and catching her around lunchtime,” Jessyca Sulfsted, marketing and communications manager at Louisiana SPCA, told The Dodo.
Even though she was hesitant about her new friends, after some time, she felt better than ever!
Her shy personality started to fade away and she grew into the cuddliest, sweetest girl ever. It was clear to everyone that all she wanted was a new, forever home. However, she first had to go through some basic training!
Doggo Boot Camp
Since it is highly likely that she never had a home and a family before, the staff at Louisiana SPCA had to teach her some tricks. And, the first one was walking on a leash.
“We knew pretty quickly that she was going to need some help,” Sulfsted said.
To let everybody know that this pup wasn’t really a leash-walking expert, the hoomans decided to put up a clear sign on her kennel that read, “Hi, I need help learning to walk on a leash.”

Thanks to this, when a hooman would take her out of the kennel during the day, they would know that they should practice some leash work.
At first, Lunch Lady wasn’t really sure what was going on so she would just crouch down and walk like she was sneaking into the snack room. Luckily, with time, she got better and better.
“She has shown so much improvement, and we’re confident she will be a pro very soon,” Sulfsted said.
Lunch Lady would absolutely thrive in a home with active hoomans who will encourage her to keep growing and learning every single day. She loves to hang out on the couch and snuggle the night away.
So, if you are looking for a little cuddle bug who is eager to learn, Lunch Lady just might be the dog for you.
