It was an ordinary day when David Scarbrough was returning home from work. It was unusually hot in Texas.
While he was driving, he spotted something that completely shocked him. It was a woman with an exhausted mama dog and her eight puppies.
The man knew he couldn’t just sit back and do nothing, but he was in no position to help her right away. So, he waved at her and then returned the next day to help.
Things Were Not So Great
When he came to meet her, he stopped his jeep on the curb and introduced himself. He brought some food and water for the dogs and then politely asked the woman what her plans were.
David noticed that the mama dog was a bit frightened for her puppies so she started barking at him, but the woman calmed her.
She then told him that her plan was to sell the puppies to a good home for $20 each so she could have the mama dog fixed.
Not knowing what to do, the man returned home and posted about their story in hopes that people would offer help.
Unsurprisingly, a lot of kind people donated funds, food, and towels. This was overwhelmingly good news.
The man then tried to find the homeless woman to give her all of the gifts the people sent. When she realized how many kind people reached out to help, she started crying.
He offered to help her with the mama dog, named 7-11, and the puppies, but she was reluctant. She was afraid that shelters would put down the puppies if they couldn’t find homes.
The woman was also afraid to leave the mama dog, even for a short period of time. David realized that all the dogs had fleas and parasites and needed to go to a clinic.
They Are Getting A New Chance
Eventually, he and some others convinced her to help them all. A woman named Kari examined and treated them all with David’s help.
They realized that some of the puppies still had problems, as they had a runny stool, which could be a sign of some sort of illness.
Kari offered to get them fixed and vaccinated so she could find them a new family. She kept treating them for a while.
Now that they were taken care of, at least for a while, David focused on helping the mama dog. The man asked for help again so 7-11’s owner could stay in a hotel for a while and just rest.
The amazing strangers turned up to help again, and some even offered to cover the vet costs. Seeing this much kindness is really beautiful.
There was only one problem left. Because the woman didn’t want to be separated from her dog, David had to schedule an appointment so that they could both go. He even gifted her a phone so they could stay in touch at all times.
A couple of kind people picked her up and took her to the clinic in Texas, where the procedure would take place. After everything was finally finished, the woman went to the hotel to rest for a few days.
A Hopeful Resolution
The mama dog, Seven, was now a lot kinder to David. When she saw how he treated her so kindly, she warmed up to him. It was really heartwarming to see.
After some time had passed, David went to check on the puppies. He found out that one of them had tragically passed away due to esophagus issues.
The rest were healthy and had received all of the necessary medical treatment. They were now signed up for adoption. In two months, all seven of them had found a wonderful home and were living the best lives.
As for the homeless woman and her dog, 7, she is still doing the best she can to care for her. Currently, homeless advocates are helping her to find a more stable living arrangement.
Stories like this make it evident just how much we can do to help when we want to. Thanks to David and the kind strangers, all of the puppies and their mom got a second chance.
