You’d think he’s not over one year old, but the truth is different.
Ziggy, the rescue dog, is much older than that, and he still acts like a little pooch.
Did he fall into a cauldron of magic potion that granted him eternal youth?
Probably.
With a playful personality and a bouncy attitude, Ziggy is the spitting image of a younger dog, and he often deceives people on the streets.
They try to guess how old the charming Ziggy is while cruising the New York streets, and they’re almost always wrong.
Once you hear how old Ziggy is and his rescue story, you’ll be quite surprised.
It’s Never Too Late To Rescue A Dog
Like many mixed-breed dogs, Ziggy ended up in a shelter as a young doggo.
“I found Ziggy online, he had been turned in and abandoned in Texas at a shelter,” says Ziggy’s mom in the video by Cuddle Buddies. “And then he was sent up to Waggy Tail Rescue up here (New York) and placed with a wonderful foster family… I just knew we were meant to be.”
But, Ziggy’s rescue story wasn’t all rainbows and sprinkles. Ziggy was in an awful state due to all the neglect throughout the years. His coat had bald patches, and that still was not the worst of it.
After a thorough examination, it turned out that Ziggy was suffering from hyperthyroidism. The said condition results in weight loss despite a healthy appetite, hyperactivity, increased blood pressure, heart rate, etc.
As soon as he was prescribed treatment, meds that he would need to take for the rest of his life, Ziggy started feeling better, and the change was visible. His hair started growing back, and his mood was a whole lot better.
Ziggy felt like a young pupster again, but in fact, he was ten at the moment Isabelle, his hoomom, adopted him.
“He really loves to explore and he loves watching the world. He loves observing everything and seeing all the action and smelling all the smells. And that was like the biggest transformation for me. I think I’m the luckiest in the world that I found him and that he chose me,” finishes Isabelle.
Isabelle adopted a senior dog, but that wasn’t a risk at all. She gave an old soul a chance to see how beautiful life could be, and that’s just wonderful. It took a while, but Ziggy found his furever family – the one that adores him to the bone.

When Isabelle rescued Ziggy, he was almost skin and bones, with a rat tail, bald spots, and no hair on his ears. Malnourishment really took its toll.
After just a while with Isabelle and his new family, Ziggy started blossoming into a stunning pooch. When he got in the best shape of his life, people on the streets started asking Isabelle whether Ziggy was a puppy. That’s how great this pooch was doing.
No one could believe the little pup had over a decade of life experience behind him. Ziggy went through a lot, and yet he was such a tiny fellow.
Spending time with Ziggy showed Isabelle that he was holding in a lot of trauma. Over time, he learned how to unwind and let it go. And, he showed her his real personality, which was bubbling.
No wonder because Ziggy is a mixture of many dog breeds. Isabelle had to do a DNA test. According to Embark and Wisdom, Ziggy is part Maltese, part Chihuahua, part Yorkie, part Australian Cattle Dog, and part Pom.
Can you name a more creative mutt? I don’t think so… Mother Nature played the cards really well and gave Ziggy the best from all those breeds.
And, he was destined to look great one day. All it took was a bit of love and care, and Ziggy’s glow-up was granted.

Even after all these years on Earth, Ziggy still has the spark in his eyes that makes us believe he’s definitely a puppy trapped in an old dog’s body.
