I’ve always wondered why those who have every reason to give up usually turn out to be the ones who show the greatest resilience.
Then, I came across Hugo’s story!
As a special-needs pup cruelly abandoned in a public restroom alongside his two siblings, he didn’t have much to hope for. Yet, when he was found and given a new chance – he embraced it with open paws.
That’s when it became clear to me.
We often overlook the gift of life until we are put in a hopeless situation. If we could see the world through Hugo’s eyes, we would probably be much more grateful for what we have!
Hugo’s Resilience Dazzles Everyone
Hugo’s story hasn’t been an easy one.
At just weeks of age, he was abandoned by the ones he loved the most. Cruelly placed in a public bathroom as a special-needs boi, Hugo couldn’t fend for himself.
Fortunately, kind passersby could not let him end his life journey like that, and in no time, he found himself in Karey’s foster home in Florida.
During his first vet exam, this tiny pup was diagnosed with a series of issues. On top of his spinal inflammation that caused his hind leg disability, Hugo also suffered from dwarfism and immune deficiency.
“Hugo was born with spinal inflammation, unable to use his back legs… He is immune compromised and he doesn’t heal; his body betrays him,” Karey wrote on Instagram.
Yet, despite all that, he had the greatest zest for life!
For some reason, Hugo couldn’t have been happier in Karey’s home, surrounded by his two siblings. He became the soul of his household, making everyone instantly feel better with his presence.
That ultimately led to the only possible outcome – his adoption! After a year in foster care, Hugo finally found a forever home next to Karey.
“I officially made this little meatball a permanent part of my heart. He was finally medically cleared to go to his forever home, and after being his medical foster for a year of ups & downs there was no way I could let him go,” Karey wrote.
A Miracle Dog With The Ultimate Purpose
Today, this sweet pup exceeds all the expectations and leaves everyone dazzled!
Despite his medical issues and short life expectancy, Hugo is still going strong. He spreads joy everywhere he goes and doesn’t have a single mean bone in his body.
“He is a miracle because of all the medical issues and what he has overcome in his short life; he has magic super powers because he spreads joy and makes everyone happy,” his momma states.
To make things even better, this Florida canine recently became a certified therapy dog!
He regularly visits schools and hospitals, teaching hoomans of all ages that being different is perfectly fine. As a special-needs dog, he demonstrates how loveable, joyful, and enthusiastic everyone can be when they find a purpose in life.
And, Hugo definitely found his!
Alongside his mom and his two furry siblings, he enjoys life to the fullest, beating every odd along the way.
Even though he’s destined to live a shorter life, Hugo doesn’t intend to slow down. Quite the opposite – he seizes every opportunity to make friends, experience adventures, and ultimately create memories to cherish.
After all – isn’t life all about the memories?
