Winnie, a Great Dane from Kansas, never knew she could love other animals until fate brought two orphaned kittens into her life.
Her previous life revolved primarily around her mom, Lisa, and the other hoomans in her family, but that was about it. Winnie wasn’t a fan of other dogs, nor did she know how to establish proper relationships with other furry buds.
She was an extremely reactive dog by that point until suddenly, her whole life changed!
Winnie Took Everyone By Surprise
Winnie is no ordinary dog, that’s for sure. She’s goofy, human-oriented, and an all-time entertainer for her family. However, this Great Dane has always had a hard time bonding with other furry friends.
Even though her owners do everything to help her overcome this issue, Winnie’s lack of socialization with other animals lies mainly in her improper breeding.
Nevertheless, she’s definitely making progress!
“She loves to play with other dogs. Not a mean bone in her body. But inside our home, in her domain, with her food, her snacks, her couch, her bed, her human, her toys, it is a completely different dog,” Lisa states in an Instagram post.
Last year, thanks to her mom’s dedicated efforts and constant behavioral training, Winnie had minimal outbursts.
However, there’s one bonded pair of furballs with whom Winnie has a natural connection… Maternal, even! They are her two newly-fostered orphaned kittens!
When Lisa and her family brought these two tiny feline buds into their home, they weren’t sure how Winnie would react. They hoped she would at least be impartial, but this sturdy girl soon took them by surprise!
Not only did she accept these two orphans – she basically became their momma!
Seeing how amazingly Winnie has bonded with the kittens, this Kansas City family couldn’t contain their shock!
“I’m literally shook with Winnie’s obsession with these kittens,” Lisa wrote on Instagram.
There was something primal inside Winnie that made her turn all caring and sweet around her tiny siblings. She constantly protected them, sniffed them, and showered them with the warmest kisses and cuddles.
The kittens would eventually snuggle next to her in her crate and sleep together. It was a truly beautiful sight to witness! Once a reactive dog triggered by pretty much everything, Winnie was now a completely calm canine who found her safe spot – with the kitties!
She Found Her Passion As A Foster Momma
Winnie’s unexpected love for the kittens is something her family wants to preserve.
Unfortunately, with all the pets in their home, Lisa and her husband are not able to keep the kitties. The family has already found a suitable forever home for one, and the other will soon have her opportunity, too.
“Winnie said goodbye to one of her babies this evening. He is going to enjoy his new family,” wrote Lisa.
However, in order to allow Winnie to continue expressing her gentle side, her owners will keep fostering kittens in need.
Winnie has proven her amazing foster skills herself, and not letting her become momma to other feline friends would definitely be wrong.
For now, Winnie is happy to have spent significant time with her two kittens, but she’s definitely looking forward to many more exciting fostering adventures down the road!
Her hidden talent is now revealed, and she’s eager to use it as much as possible!
